i always thought exfoliating was good.

but ive also heard that for peopl with acne its not good

because it spreads bacteria

what do you think?

I only exfoliate when I have dry skin and I only exfoliate the dry skin area.

But I'm no pro with Acne, mines awful.

Clients with really bad acne I personally recomend they don't exfoliate. I recomend a clay based mask for acne called clarifying mask. You apply it and just let it dry. I definatly don't let them use Microdermabrasion, since I was always told if you scrub acne you spread bacteria.

what i didn't know this.... i exfoliate liike crazy and maybe that's why i always have zits and why my face always looks red.. i didn't know this...

i will look into this mask

I never anything about spreading bacteria. This is a new thing for me.

I think it depends on the severity of the acne. If you have cystic acne it's probably best to stay away from physical exfoliation because it might aggravate the blemishes. I've never heard the spreading bacteria bit though.

i have to exfoliate or my skin gets realli bad ... i don't understand how exfoliating spreads bacteria ? :icon_scratch:

This is why I recomend a clay mask that can be put on land left in place like MK's Clairfying Mask. I have read in mags, and had a Dermatoligist tell me that using something like a scrub or micro on acne( if it severe) will only irritiate it, break it open and spread bacteria around. When I have an occasional breakout, I still use micro, but if I have alot, I put on the mask over the affected area and leave it. I might leave it on for an hour and sometimes I have even slept in it if it is just a single breakout of sm area.

I agree with Beautynista about the Cystic Acne.

I think it's depending on what kind of exfoliation product you use. For ppl with active acne, facial scrub exfoliation is a no no, instead try using acid exfoliation.

Clay mask is great for acne prone user, so I'd recommend it.

i tend to be acne prone and if i dont exfoliate, my skin breaks out more.

so i do it every so often in a week to keep it clean.

Have you tried exfoliators that are milder like Kanebo Silk peeling powder? I can't use regular exfoliators either, my skin gets really red, but the Silk peeling powder works good, no redness. It's like a powder you mix with water and then it become like a mild soap, I use it in the shower.

i broke out last time from exfoliating. it was too harsh. when you exfoliate, you remove the dry patches and dead skin cells and i did it too much, so my skin became very oily, which in turn caused lots of acne.

Jennifer - what did u exfoliate w/ last time? maybe the beads were too big ?

-I agree using milder exfoliation might work if u have sensitive skin

-that makes sense if some1 has severe acne. thanx

I didn't think about this before.. I do exfoliate (not too often), but I was wondering about the clay mask.. Thanks!!!

i think you have to let your skin dictate if exfoliation is necessary for you. if your skin is congested or blemish prone i would start with something like the gentle cream exfoliant from dermalogica. i mix it with a little distilled water before applying so that it not to strong for people that haven't ever used an exfoliant. i'd go easy on the scrubs, though. they can draw some nasty things to the surface.

Hi Edda,

The Kanebo Silk peeling powder sounds like it works similar to Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant.

Yes that could be, but I don't know the Dermalogica products, we don't have them here. But it says on the Silk peeling powder that you should use it 1-3 times a week

the best clay mask ive ever used was this one

my skin felt so calm and smooth after. and what was best minor zits virually dissapeared when i used it. too bad they dont sell it here:frown: .

ive too heard physical exfoliation is very very bad for breakouts.
