What does it mean when people say they thread their facial hair??? How do you do and it is it easy and safe?? Can I do it by myself???

they use some string and they take the hair out like that i heard its really good and doesnt hurt that much and lasts longer

The actual concept of threading is fairly easy once you get the hang of the movement, but it is a bit tricky doing your own face as it requires some coordination. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

What is "Threading?" An ancient method of hair removal with origins in Arabia and South Asia. It is very delicate procedure, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin. The art of threading may be seen in the gentle and precise twisting of a length of cotton thread which is twisted along the hairs which are to be removed. The twisting action of the thread traps the hair and lifts it out of the follicle. Threading is more effective and less painful than tweezing; hair re-growth becomes finer and more sparse after regular treatments; and the top layers of skin are not peeled or traumatized in the process. Threading is highly recommended and an excellent option for those who use Retin-A, Accutane, and similar products.

Taken from this website http://www.spaindex.com/Lifestyles/Threading.htm

The website lists a bunch of salons that practice and offer threading ;D.

From my personal experience from threading, The procedure was fairly fast, cheap and although it may hurt a little it's a pain far less from tweezing and waxing. I would never consider doing it on my own ;(... I guess it's cheap enough for me to go to salon...

Threading is a popular means of hair removal in middle eastern and asian countries. Thin thread is wrapped around the hair and pulled out. The people who do this are very quick! I have had it done and liked the result. It is just as painful as tweezing but quicker. It is a good alternative hair removal procedure to wax.

Threading is becoming really popular over here in Ireland too recently but i havent tried it myself. I know Bhav gets her brows threaded regularly and they always look fab. I wonder if it hurts more than waxing

I wud say waxing n therading hurts the same.. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> but i'm prefer threading.I've switched from plucking to threading becoz most of the time the esthetician will over pluck my brows n make it thin...which doesnt suit my face...I alwiz adore salma hayek's eyebrow..So i 'll get similar look by threading.I'll do it every 2 weeks once n it's very convenience n give that clean look..!

Of coz that threaded are will look slightly red and u can apply sum cooling gel like aloe vera or ice cubes n rub over.. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

you can actually use regular thread (the kind you sew with). its not too hard to learn to do yourself. i think it really hurts tho cos you actually feel each hair being pulled one by one. I rather wax because its one quick pull.

After a couple of "sessions", it barely feels like anything - you get used to it, and it doesnt hurt.

Simply take a 50 cm length of thread - they say 100% cotton is best - and tie the two ends together. Place each hand inside the circular loop of thread so that you are holding it open. Then twist the thread, about 10-15 times so that the twisted over section is in the centre of the space between the hands and you have two triangles almost on either side of the twisted section. Now push the twisted section along the string so that it is nearer one hand. When you do this, the triangle will get smaller towards that hand and bigger towards the other hand. Hence, the hand nearer the smaller triangle will close in, while the hand near the bigger triangle will open up. Open and close the hands in mid-air simultaneously, and you will notice that the twisted over section of the string will move along from one hand to the other. Once you have played around with getting the hand actions smooth, try it on an area of your skin. Probably easiest to work on your leg to begin with, but make sure that the thread is placed on the skins surface and that the hands dont move around - that they just open and close in the same place. As the twisted section moves from one hand to the other, the hairs in the "line" it forms will be trapped within it and pulled out as it moves across.

Apologies, my explanation isn't too clear but if you are interested and try to follow it through, it should hopefully make sense and you will see how it works. I like to thread my upper lip especially, i couldnt stand to use a tweezer in that area, dislike depilatory creams, and wax doesnt seem to work!

I've been having my eyebrows threaded for the past 4 years...personally, I like that a LOT more than waxing or tweezing. Threading lets you have a cleaner, more precisely shaped look. However, if you've never really done it before, I would definitely go and have it done by a professional first and then if you learn how, I guess you could just maintain it. This applies more for eyebrows though. If you are going to a salon, I would recommend going to someone who's been recommended to you...rather than just randomly picking someone from the YellowPages. You don't want to end up with a bad eyebrow job...takes a while to grow back out so you can have it re-shaped! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

PS. If you're sensitive to pain, I've heard that taking a Motrin before helps...

The most painful part to thread i think is the upper lip facial hair... but anyway the hair grown out will be more finer .. worst a try..:clap

I've had my brows threaded forever ... it hurt about the first couple of times but ever since then its been a breeze. Costs about $6 Cdn. here, I'll never go back to waxing ... I don't recommend doing it yourself on the brows, go to a salon

I prefer threading over any other kind of facial hair removal method, because there's hardly any irritation (maybe a little superficial redness initially that goes away after a few minutes), it's fairly quick, and you get smooth results. Also, you get a much cleaner line when doing the eyebrows. And after a while, the hair comes back finer, if at all.

It does sting when you first get it done, but once you know what to expect, you get used to it.

I never tried threading, but I know a lot of people who prefer threading over waxing.

my mom does the threading thing and used it on me. they basically take like a thick thread and use it and its like waxing cause it pulls the hair out of the root. but unlike waxing it doesnt make you break out or cause any other strange problems that tend to show up with waxing. this was my 1st form of facial hair removal and despite popular belief it hurts (at least i think it does).

i get my eyebrows done every two weeks with threading. Its usually trained profresionals that can do the threading itcan hard on your own.I dont think it hurts its pretty painless i guess it just depends.

I love threading! I tried both waxing and plucking. Plucking was too painful for me and Waxing was quick but not thorough enought. although, threading hurts a bit, I think its worth it.
