Dont know if anyone can help me with my problem but Im hoping one of you knowledgeable ladies might be able to ... here goes...

Ive been going to a salon to get chemical peels - first i had to use their cleanser and nightcream a week before to get my skin used to the glycolic acid. On the first peel i didnt feel any stinging apart from to the crease from my nose to mouth and inbetween my eyes which they neutralised. The rest of my face just felt slightly warm. By the next day I could see that I was burnt although superficial (it still there after nearly a week but it is peeling slowly). when I went back for chemical peel no. 2 I mentioned the marking - the nurse didnt seem too concerned just said it is more than likely from sun damage which is fine. So she didnt do much to this area but concentrated on the hyperpigmentation ara which seems to be peeling slowly. Basically what I want to know is has anyone gone to a salon had some peels and the skin starts looking worst before it looks better. Dont get me wrong there are certain parts of my face that i can see its glowing and as the nurse doesnt seem concerned Im just wondering if others have gone through the same thing.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I have never gone to a salon for peels. I do it at home. Basically it's possible for the skin to look worse first if the concentration is too high for your skin or if it was left on your skin for too long - it's a chemical burn. You can ask the nurse to make adjustments to suit your skin. Also remember to wear a good sunscreen everyday. The peel makes your skin more sensitive to the sun and without sun protection your skin will surely get worse from the photo damage.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have done a peel at home - over 2 years ago and burnt myself so badly that it took those 2 years for my skin to recover. Mind you I did use a peel of 30% strength - Im black. So thought it might be better for me to go to a salon as dont want to go through all that again. They use 10.2% on me. I do use a SPF50 sunscreen.

In that case I think I will continue with the peels and hope that eventually all of my face will look goods instead of some of it. I did originally have the peel on for 15 mins but on the last peel it was on for around 12 minutes so I guess its just one of those things that the salon and myself have to work on.

Thanks also for the recommendaton of the Avon ANew Clinical pads - might try these after the peels as I doubt they would be strong enough for the pigmentation issues Im trying to get rid off but once the peels have sorted out those issues I hope to try something like this for maintenance.

Thanks.
