Hi. I've just been to a skin clinic for a consultation with a dermatologist. I told him that I wanted to get rid of superficial scars and red marks left behind from previous acne. He advised me to get a TCA Peel, he didn't really tell me much about it so I was wondering if anyone has had one here.

What's the procedure and did it work well for you?

Thanks, Lee.

I had a medium TCA peel when I went to Costa Rica for some plastic surgery. When I woke up my face did burn. The nurse asked me if I was in pain and I said yes and the next thing I knew I was asleep. It took about a week for my skin to peel completely off. It was weird because my skin turned gray/black because that is what the dead skin looked like. They tell you not to peel it off yourself to just let it peel off naturally. I peeled it just a little. This peel would not eliminate acne scars in my opinion. I got it to eliminate brown spots and it didn't do much. IMO you need that deep peel that turns your face very red for quite a while. I know that is not good news, but it is my experience. If you watch Discovery Health they had a woman that got that deep kind of peel and she was red for a month, but it did wonders for her skin.

I forgot to tell you to ask the Dermatologist about pain management. Ask if you are put to sleep, which I doubt. Ask exactly how it's done, how long it takes and what they do for pain. I hope I haven't scared you, but it did burn at first; when I woke up I was fine. I think I slept through the night, but I did have plastic surgery too.

Wow! Thanks for the info! Peels seem a wee bit scary IMHO... I think I'll wait a while longer before I try any LOL!

They sound really harsh.

I think for superficial scars and redness you can just use some higher % glycolic acid peels. I'm real scared of TCA peels and can't stand a couple of days to weeks downtime. You can read about glycolic acid peels at makeupartistschoice.com. They have lots of info on other peels also. I use and love their glycolic peels.

is this better or worse than Microderm? Or are they two totally different things?
