For some reason my face has become super pale this winter and it doesn't match w/the rest of my body @ all. I want to use a self - tanner for the face , but don't know how to apply it. Is there any areas of the face i should avoid? Should i apply it everywhere, even to my under - eye circles? around my nose? what about lips ?

help plz :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ive never used a self-tanner on face.. I would of thought you would apply it all over but not on your lips. Hope I could help :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> x

Katie, I would think so too, but I'm scared applying the tanner on my circles will make them darker. .. hmm ... guess i'll just have to try 2nite and see .

I think there is a selftanner that goes on as a foundation sothat you immediately see what the color looks like before it's set..

But i don't know what it's called.. i saw it on Extra a long time ago.. I'll try to find it..

Okay i didn't find the exact thing i was looking for.. but i found this:

Tricks of the Trade

Don't Sweat It
Perspiration can make a self-tanner streak, so never work in a steamy environment like your bathroom. Pull your head back with a headband instead of a shower cap that can make you perspire.

Don't Go Crazy Around the Eyes

Aesthetician Regina Viotto warns that most natural tans happen to people who are wearing sunglasses. Instead of smearing self-tanner onto your lids, use a finger to gently massage a dab of moisturizer around your eye socket, so it blends with the surrounding color.

To Thin out Self-Tanner on the Bridge of Your Nose

Makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen, likes to swab the area with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. It makes for a less mask-like face.

Make Your Complexion Look Warmer

Use a rosy blush on your cheekbone to look less monochromatic (all one color tan).

To Make Your Tan Fade Faster

If you accidentally mess up and end up looking streaked and muddy, there's little you can do but wait until it wears off. To make your self-tan fade faster, exfoliate every day with a facial scrub or glycolic moisturizer.

Choosing the Right Color Self-Tanner

Bronzers come in many different shades. If you are fair, choose one that's more pale gold then an actual bronze. Darker complexions should select more of a true bronze shade.

More Trick

Buy a foundation that is a shade or two darker then your regular foundation and use it as a cream bronzer.
Symb075c00b700f066000000.png
To avoid a striped effect with a gel or cream bronzer, blend it over your cheekbones rather than your entire face.

Symb075c00b700f066000000.png
When using a powder bronzer, prevent streaks by using a really large, soft makeup brush. The larger the brush, the less spotty your face will look.

It is fine to use a bronzer on your body, but you should treat it as a highlighter, to give your skin a glow, not as all-over color. For example, rather than coating your whole chest, just dust a little on the collarbone. You want your skin to appear warmer, not scary dark.

Keep bronzer far away from straps and necklines, especially when you are wearing a light top.

Great Self-TannersNew, self-tanners like Lancome Flash Bronzer Self-Tanning Face Gel, react more quickly with the proteins in your skin, so color emerges in just under an hour and sets after five minutes (800-526-2663)

Tinted versions, like Revlon Tinted Self-Tanner, Christian Dior Bronze Instant Glow Tinted Face Self-Tanner, Neutrogena Instant Bronzer for the Face, Clinique Face Quick Bronze Tinted Self-Tanner and Estee lauder Go Bronze Tinted Self-Tanner for Face, and Avon's Sunless Tanning Cream w/SPF 8, let you catch streaks before you're stuck with them.

Find Revlon & Neutrogena at drugstores, Christian Dior at Nordstrom, Clinique at clinique.com, Avon (email me) and Estee Lauder at 888-731-6024.

I find it very hard to tan my face!

Ive used Fake Bake The Face

Lancome Flash Bronzer for the face

both didnt really work.

I recommend rubbing some vaseline around your hairline and eyebrows as tan can easily get caught here and look terrible the next day!

Best of luck - let us know how you get on!

i find with self tanning face products you have to apply sparingly to your hairline as if you don't rub in throughly it appears much darker but with some products i've used i find no difference, just depends on what product really!

I was looking for a good fake way to tan my face too, since I'm using Dove Energy Glow in my body... I am not THAT dark but certainly my face is not matching my body haha This had made the mineral foundation hunt particularly difficult because I'm getting confused about the color I should get.

The Lancome one that was mentioned interested me... but I bet it's pricey...

I've found two wonderful self tanning options for the face! The first is a gradual tanning one that's really easy to use-- It's Olay's Touch of Sun for the face (SPF 15-- Olay Complete Moisturizer). You don't have to do anything different to apply this other than washing your hands when you're done. It really won't streak or make any problems. Gives you a nice glow that develops slightly as the day goes on but isn't anything really major.

Now-- if you really want a nice tan look to your face that has a very small chance of getting screwed up-- you must check out L'oreal Sublime Bronze Dual Action Instant Bronzer and Self-Tanning Lotion (I use it in Medium). It has a pump that squirts out half sunless tanner and half bronzer. You can just blend it together in your hands and then you'll be able to see where you're putting it on your face.

I have just a few things to pass along that I've learned over time with this product:

1. Apply it on a freshly washed and dry (preferably scrubbed and exfoliated) face

2. Use the minimum amount you think it will take to cover your face.

3. Blend everywhere except on lips-- I tend to use slightly less directly under my eyes

4. Use a cotton ball or makeup sponge to blend around your hairline and jaw (lightly)

5. Wash your hands!

6. Give it about 15 minutes before you apply makeup-- It really doesn't have to be dry before you do-- but I like to give it at least a little time.

7. It's sometimes a little dewy when I go to put on makeup so I don't moisturize when I use this.

8. I use this pretty much every-other-day...using the Olay Touch of Sun on the off days

I have had NO issues with streaking with this product-- you really don't have to be all that careful. These are just some ideas to get the best possible result. The color is natural and starts to show up immediately but will build as time goes on. I work in TV news and feel this looks like a completely natural tan on camera! LOVE it!

I'm thinking if you do your face, a spray kind might be your best option. cause it should be able to reach all the corners that the sun would normally, and do it evenly too.
