Sunless feet?

What is the best way to tan the ankle/feet area without looking dirty/splotchy with self tanner. I can never get it even

When I did sunless tanner, I would put lots of lotion on my feet and ankles, and after it dried I'd BARELY go over it with the sunless tanner.
