My friend recently told me that wearing high SPF on the face on a daily basis is not good for the skin. She says that it will eventually clog pores and our body/ skin becomes immune to the product; so it will no longer work on our skin/ protect it from the sun.

She tells me that I should wear light SPF sunblock ( SPF 15 ) rather than heavy ones ( SPF 50, what I am using right now). YOu are only suppose to use high SPF only if you are out in the sun for long period/ going to the beach. Is that true? Cause I use my Shisheido SPF 50 sunblock everyday, no matter where I go (to the mall, @ school...)

A cosmetic counter lady once told me that she uses SPF 50 + on her face everyday (365 days) even though she is in the mall the whole day. She tells me its because indoor lights are really damaging to the skin. Indoor lights can overtime cause spots and freckles on the skin.

I use to use Clinique Superdefense SPF 35, should I switch back to this one then? or should i stick to the Shisheido one?

How do you girls apply your SPF? Do you apply it upwards or downwards.

A cosmetics lady tells me to apply it upward and not in circular motions because it will cause uneven distribution and causing all SPF to spread on the side.

Another cosmetics lady tells me to apply it downwards, that is the opposite direction of how you would apply your moisturizer. She says that applying downwards will prevent the pores from clogging. Whereas if we apply it the same direction, that is upwards, as our moisturizer, it will clog our pores.

So which way is right?

I have no idea what to tell you.... I've always been told to apply anything up and outward. Apparently a downward motion can help lead to wrinkles, sags and fine lines (no idea if this is true). I don't see anything wrong with wearing a high SPF daily. When in doubt though, maybe you could consult with a physician or dermatologist.

I apply sunblock, moisturizers, and face creams in the same manner that Aquilah does. I do apply my foundation along the sides of my face and my jawline in a downward motion because I was told that it helps those lovely tiny facial hairs to lay in place better.

I don't think I've ever heard about application direction affecting pores though.

As far as not wearing a spf or wearing a lower spf I really don't know. There are so many rumors and different school's of thought out there. I would definitely recommend taking Aquilah's advice and check with an MD or a dermo.

To be honest the sun will do more damage than the sunscreen!!! lol. Wear what you feel comfortable with.. I wear spf 25 everyday atm because of it being summer and my skin being so pale that it wont tan

I'm with the girls on applying lotions and creams in an upwards motion. No idea bout the rest though, im a total novice when it comes to sun protection :-(

I am up and outward. If the sunblock contains too high of an spf the only things I have heard are they chemicals and it is not really good for the body. Spfs of too high can cause irritation to sensitive skin. And if it contains heavy minerial oils it can cause clogging even though many believe this is not true, I believe it is.

Do make sure you get about 15 minutes of no spf sun on skin daily. Otherwise you can suffer from depression and other things. The body needs certain things from sunlight. Just make sure it is not between 11am and 3 pm.

wearing high spf doesnt do anything to your face, when you chose the right formula, other than protecting your skin. dont believe everything you hear, unless it is a trusted, scientific source.

I apply my sunscreen outwards on the cheeks, and upwards on my forhead and neck.

I use spf 50+ everyday (I started a year ago) and my skin got much better.

Hmm. I never knew that you had to apply sunscreen a certain way. I better start doing that now. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I use SPF 55 on my arms and legs, and a SPF 30 moisturizer on my face.
