I have heard 2 sides of facial steaming: Do it and/ dont do it. Some say its good for opening pores and purging out the impurities. Some say it aggravates acne. I think it is good to steam the face and body skin as well. What do you all think?

I could see it being beneficial if you were going to cleanse the face right afterwards with the pores being so opened like that.

I have done it when I've had bad breakouts and it really did help me. I just fill my bathroom sink with hot water and put a towel over my head and let the steam open my pores. I do cleanse immediately afterwards. Sometimes I would cleanse before and then steam and use a mask right after. I would do it several nights in a row.

I've never had a facial but don't they steam the face during a facial???

Well, if you ever take a steaming shower, then you're kinda doing it then... Same with using a sauna... I don't personally see what could be so horrible about it.

I wouldn't think it would be bad for your skin either, but then again, I have never done it!

Well, I guess those of the "don't"-camp are against it because if you don't know what you're doing, the steam can end up too hot and you can scald your skin and end up with broken capillaries, etc.

I steam my face every two weeks, as a sort of "pre-treatment" for masks. You end up with pristine, glowing skin.

steaming is absolutely essential for a super clean skin!! however i recommend steaming weekly ..not several days in a row!

I have steamed before and like what it does for my skin. I need to do it more often.

i was gonna do this yesterday, but got too lazy. i've never done it before. maybe i'll do it tonight!

Several years ago I trained as a beauty therapist. Steaming is good for your skin, however when doing it at home I think it can be a little bit more risking. For one reason in salons you have your eyes covered during the steam part of a facial. Trying to cover your eyes when doing it at home is some what more tricky. The eyes are much more delicate than the rest of your face, so I'm more on the side of not doing it at home.

I always get affried of even trying it, especially about opening the pores!

Yes I do the morocoian steam treatment every week for my all body and its amazing, but not like in face steam which the steam is focusing directly to my face!

I think it is not that much important.

It is may be sutible for some and not for others, I don't know.

If you dont have sensitive skin then steaming your face should be ok. If you have reactive skin.. the heat will cause the blood to rush to the surface therefore causing some broken cappileries. x

I've done it before when I was younger. I never really thought it did anything - but my skin was pretty bad back then. Lots of breakouts, etc. Now I'm just very oily with a lot of blackheads. Maybe I should try it again.

The only experience i have is with the sauna, i always find that my skin looks much smoother afterwards and i have dry skin, which apparantly steam is not recommended for.
