I currently wear revlon colorstay with spf 15 in it. I walk everyday outside for around 1 a nd 1/2 hours. I am worried that the sun on my face will cause sun damage. Do I need to put a stronger spf on while walking or out in the sun generally? If so, do I put in on under my makeup or on top. Thanks so much

I use Revlon Colorstay as well. Now that the sun is more intense and the days are longer, I use a moisturizer with spf of 15. Even if I plan on being outside for an hour or two, I tend to get sidetracked and stay out longer.

I wash my face and apply the sunscreen.

I wait about 15 minutes then apply my makeup.

I am so particular about applying the foundation, then concealer, then blush that I would be concerned that the sunscreen would mess up my artistry lol, if I applied it on top of my make up.

I hope that helps.

I use aveeno moisturizer with spf 15 when i'm indoors all day.

If i have to go out i use aveeno sunblock with spf 30. I put on moisturizer, then sunblock then makeup.

I do plan on getting something with a higher spf though...i don't feel like 30 would do it for me.

i have a moisturizer spf15 which i apply first then i apply a sunblock with spf 45 on top of it. is it ok ???

Yes it helps alot. That is what I figured I should do.

Even though my makeup has an SPF 15 I also use a moisturizer with at least SPF 15 under that. Especially in the summer when I'm outside more.

well i'm not sure adding SPFs makes a higher protection

(im thinking about another thread, can't remember which one). what i do is i use a spf20 sunscreen in winter, and currently 40, and when i wanna wear makeup, i just trust my mineral makeup. almost all my moisturizers don't have an spf, so i just wait until it's absorbed, and then i put some sunscreen (if i go outside, i reapply regularly, in summer i tend to freak out without my sunscreen).

It really depends on how much you'd like to prevent sun damage and how far you'd go to ensure that.

In order to reap the benefits of the SPF in your foundation, you'd have to really smear on a thick layer, as if applying moisturizer. Walking 1-2 hrs outside daily can cause a lot of damage if not protected properly. You realy need a seperate sunscreen with a high SPF (to prevent sunburn, ex: SPF 30) and a high PPD (to prevent photodamage).

Also keep in mind that SPF's do not add up.

HTH!

It depends on how long you are outside. Also after a few hours it needs renewal of some kind. An spf powder such as by Maybelline, cover girl of a pricier brand would do. In warm weather some powder touch -up is needed at times anyway.

From what I know, you can't add SPFs.For example: using a SPF30 moisturiser, with a SPF15 foundation will not give you SPF 45.

I would definitely wear a moisturizer with a higher SPF that protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. I am thinking at least SPF 30. I read somewhere that cosmetic grade sunblock isn't as effective as a seperate moisturizer with sunblock. Almost anything with tianium oxide could be considered a sunblock...

I wear a 25 SPF moisturizer daily. My tinted moisturizer also has SPF 25. If I will be in the sun for longer than an hour I use Nuetrogena Broad Spectrum SPF 70. But, I am very fair and tend to get freckles and moles easily.

does that mean it weakens the sun protection ????

If you apply something very liquidy (like a liquid foundation or moisturizer) on top of your sunscreen, then you are weakening it as well.

yeah, I would probably use a stronger spf sunscreen. I use shiseido's face sunscreen spf 55 under my makeup. then I put my mineral makeup on. hth.

i use different sunblock for my face and for my body. and even if my moisturizer has an spf, i still wear a separate sunblock especially when i'll be out in the sun longer than usual.

SPF 15 is not much at all.

You probably dont burn very easily & can get away with it. Even tho u cant see any damage on the outside (like burns or darkish brown sunspots, etc) there can still be a lot of damage done on the inside & undersides of the skin.

Skin ages a lot more & looses it's elasticity (not firm!) when you dont use a good amt of sunscreen (and a high amt). I think one time on Tyra they did these skin scans w/ a girl who did a ton of tanning & never wore sunscreen. She was prob in her 20's but they showed her skin at 60 or so & it looked so AWFUL. Just disgusting.

I am only outside when I run or walk everyday for an hour or so but I always use the Neutrogena sunscreen in SPF 45.

I would search for a well-formulated sunscreen of SPF 30+ and use that on both face and body. Most high-end sunscreens are pretty moisturizing anyway so you could skip that step.

It is recommended 1/4 tsp of sunscreen for facial protecton.

You could also wear a hat when you're walking around outside, the wider the brim, the better. : )
