Hi everyone,

I thought it might be nice to have a thread about the special problems those of us over 30 are having with our skin.

I'm 36--I have combination skin, oily t-zone, dry patches here and there, bags under my eyes (as well as dark circles), lots of old acne scars, large pores, etc. Also, I'm starting to get fine lines around eyes and the deeper wrinkles on my forehead, between my eyebrows, and frownlines. Pretty annoying to still have occasional breakouts while getting wrinkles!

Anyone have any suggestions of good products for any of these problems? (I would especially appreciate anything about improving the texture of my face).

Anyone have similar concerns?

Thanks.

Rae Rae

Hi - I'm right there with you, girlie! I hit 40 in May, and am starting to see those little expression lines, which would be so bad, except that they are falling in the same places as my old acne scars!

I'm oily, thankfully don't break out much anymore, although I did last month, I thin because of stress (inlaws visited) and trying a new cream-powder compact makeup (Revlon, which is non-comedogenic, so I don't blame it for the probelm, just think it didn't help).

I second the rec for microdermabrasion.l i've had it done by a nurse and also really like the little at home kits. The one mentioned above is a nice one! i also like another one that combines the corundum crystals with a glycolic acid.

Overall, older skins that are still a bit oily really benefit from glycolic acids - you cna find them in many products at any price point.

A super book is Sixteen Skintypes by Dr. Leslie Baumann (dermatologist). She has a very indepth way to determine what exactly your skin is going through and offers OTC and Rx treatments and products for all, some drugstore, others high end. Very comprehensive.

On my own I always look for things that are hydrating, light, contain glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other pore refining ingredients.

For texture, I'd really like to find a procedure that will smooth all those little scars and even out more enlarged pores. The microderm was a good start, but I'd like something more agressive. Lasers are good, but they also target pigmentation, and since I'm a freckled redhead, I'd look really stupid with no freckles on my face, but still covered with them all over the rest of myself. Might consider a deep chemical peel, since I've done some at home glycolic, lactic and trichloracetic peels and liked the results, but don't want to go deeper on my own.

Find the book at the library or at the bookstore - it's got awesome info for ALL skins and all ages (but especially ours!)

Another one here....I'm 41 and have crows feet and droopy eyelids. My eyes seem to be showing my age first. My mom has droopy eyelids too and I think some of it is hereditary. But...on the other hand I still get an oily, shiny nose and this morning I woke up with a couple of zits on my chin. Gggrrrr...I thought I'd outgrow the things by now.

I use an assortment of skin care. I just haven't really found my HG products. I don't know, maybe it's because I use TOO many different products on my face. But...I do know that using vitamin c serums under my moisturizer seems to have helped my skin tone and complexion in general.

I also really like The Body Shop Retexturizing Peel. It goes on kinda weird. the consistency is like sticky jam, but my skin felt awesome afterwards and it tingled while it was on. Queen Helene Grapeseed Mask is nice too.

How about eye creams? Has anyone found one of those that they really like and seems to work for our more "mature" skin? I'm still looking...

I'm 43 and going through skin issues myself.

IMO Retin A is an older gal's best friend. It helps restore collagen, helps skin exfoliate quicker, so skin has a nice healthy glow. It has been shown to reduce and even remove wrinkles. And it keeps black heads/white heads at bay.

Retin A requires a prescription but it is not expensive - my last tube was $17 Canadian. It can be prescribed for both acne and cosmetic reasons.

Make sure you use sunscreen daily - especially if you use Retin A.

Limit your time in the sun and don't smoke.

Posting on behalf of my mum (shes turning 44 on Monday!), shes just discovered DrLewinns Private Formula and is really impressed. She has really sensitive skin that reacts to everything and hasn't had any luck with anti-ageing products until now. She uses the R4 moisturiser and has just bought the spf 30 facial lotion and skin renewal treatment.

With regards eye cream, I recently bought a Caudalie product and got the anti ageing eye serum from the same brand which my mum loved (not too greasy, absorbed easily, kept hydrated all day) and a Nuxe eye cream, both which she was really impressed with

Also TBS re-texturising peel is a really good, cheap (we got it at an outlet store so it was half price), effective way to create even glowing skin

Yes I'm 46, And Currently Using Alpha Derma Ce And Eye Therapy From Dr Perricone, I'm Thinking Of Trying Olay Regenerist Line, Anyone Tried It Yet??

Hello everyone. I'm 40 also and very interested in the most effective skin care products for aging skin.

Currently, I'm using Retin A, Skinceuticals C + E Ferulic, and GlyDerm lotion along with La Roche Posay Anthelios sunblock or Neutrogena sunscreen. I would specifically like to find a great moisturizer which would be compatible with these products. Oh, and a good undereye cream.

I went out yesterday and bought some jojoba oil to help with cleansing and moisturizing and I think I really like it. Of course, that's only one session of using it! Do any of you use oils?
