this is what i do at least once a week:
prepare your face
wash your face with lukewarm water
cleanse face with a facial cleanser
rinse with lukewarm water
herbal steam
fill a wash bowl with hot, steamy water. add a hand full of herbs.
*licorice root is the number one herbal choice for steaming no matter what your skin type, because it helps open the pores, soothes, cleanses, and lubricates. just break a piece of root into your steam pot. as for other herbs, for dry skin try lavender, mint or calendula; for sensitve skin try calendula, chamomile, or comfrey; for oily skin try mint, lavender, rose and/or witch hazel.
holding your face above the bowl, cover your head and bowl with a towel tent - steam to work for 5 - 10 minutes.
exfoliate your face
gently apply an exfoliant to moist face and neck in circular motion. avoid eyes, inside nostrils and mouth.
rinse with lukewarm water
massage your face
a gentle massage with a light cream will stimulate circulation and help with skin tone. apply the cream or oil using gentle, upward strokes, blending outwards from the middle of the face; to neck and décolletage using upward strokes and blending outwards from the center of the décolletage.
sit, or lie down for a few moments to relax and allow the skin to breath.
deep clean your face
apply a facial mask in generous proportions to the face and neck area. avoid area around the eyes, inside the nostrils and the center of the lips. gently apply an eye cream around the eye area and onto the lips.
sit, or lie down for 15-20 minutes, relax and allow the mask to detoxify your skin.
remove the mask by rinsing with plenty of tepid water.
allow to air dry.
tone your face
apply a toner by gently moving a clean dampened cotton ball over the facial area. (avoid the eyes)
moisturize your face
apply a moisturizer. massage into the skin in gentle, light, circular movements, moving upward and outward from the center.
relax your face
take some time to either, sit in your favorite chair and listen to some music, soak in a warm tub, or lie down and daydream. relax and allow your skin cells some time to rejuvenate.
