Q: The skin around my cheeks and right under my nose is flaky and sometimes even looks like boogers! How can I get rid of it?
A: A scaly complexion is a beauty bummer, but thankfully, it's simple to cure.
"Flaky skin is usually a condition called seborrheic dermatitis, which occurs when skin is severely dry and dead cells slough off too rapidly around the nose, eyebrows, ears, and scalp," says Rosemarie Ingleton, a dermatologist in New York City.
Use a moisturizer containing glycerin (which attracts water to the skin) twice a day to soothe dry skin in about two days.
Try Almay Milk Plus Nourishing Facial Lotion, $10.95. If the area is red and irritated, also use an over-the-counter 1 percent hydrocortisone cream day and night for a few days to get your skin back to its silky and smooth best.
