can one really have combination hair??? my hair gets greasy on the crown area and the rest gets frizzy and coarse!! especially with winters here its getting worse!! plus its thinning now... i think its because of the haircut a mnth back.. she really gave a lot of texture to my hair... now tht its grown it looks like i am kinda balding from bottom up.. hehe.. not funny girls... do i see a messiah now??!!!

my hair is like that. Oily near the scalp and dry towards the ends.

I've heard that shampoo-ing the roots onli and conditioning the ends onli helps.

Yes. A lot of people have different hair combinations that change depending on the seasons or the climate. I think winter wrecks havoc on everyones hair.

yes it is possible. i have hair like that. drives me insane.

i use a clarifying shampoo, and then a moisturizing conditioner.

its seemed to work throught the years ive done this.

but it still just annoys me.

Yeah the CWC is a great idea for that. You apply conditioner to the length and shampoo on the scalp I use diluted shampoo so its not to harsh. Then rinse and apply your conditioner again to length if needed

Switching your shampoo can really help with this. Look for one with no sulfates. Sulfates dry the hair but seriously overstimulate oil production, so you get combination hair. There are tons of organic shampoos that are sulfate free and more and more common brands (like Burt's Bees) have started offering sulfate free shampoos. Good luck!

hair feels better today... switched to Schwarzkopf shampoo n leave in conditioner :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> hmmm.. didnt check sulphate in the product though... next on the to do's.

I vote yes! My hair has a lot of different textures, and while some areas are really dry feeling, others are perfect!

yep i have hair like this. my ends are always so dry and course and my roots get super oily, especially my bangs.

Aussie (i think thats the brand with the kangaroo in the purple bottles) has a shampoo exatly for this. i forgot what its called, its on the label, and says something like, oily roots, dry ends, kill 2 birds with one stone or something

i used this for about 6 months and it worked really well. i only switched to a shampoo to help the wavy in my hair.

If it's just dry ends that are giving you a problem, try oiling them. About ten minutes before you shampoo, coat just your ends in oil. (Olive oil and jojoba both work well.) This will protect your ends from some of the harsh detergents in the shampoo and also give them extra moisture. But since you wash it, you're hair won't be oily afterwards. This is a trick I learned on a bunch of my long hair forums.

The one thing I found that helped more than any other thing was to stop using conditioner near the scalp! I have longer hair and after shampooing I part it down the middle then apply conditioner to the length only, from my ears downwards. It's a tip I got from a lady at work and it's made all the difference!

I also go easy on the heat and try to avoid blow-drying or straighteners except for special occasions. With hair it seems it's what you don't do that helps, not what you do.

You have to remember that your ends are old hair... It took months or years of growing for it to get to where it is. And those are months and years of chemicals, products, heat damage, etc. So more often than not, your ends will be more porous and drier than the roots... which is relatively "New" hair. Shampoo only the scalp, let the water wash the soap through the ends. And condition only the length (ears down) and it should help. Deep conditioners, trims, and oil treatments can help keep your ends in good shape. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
