So, I've decided to try a peel, but...

I dunno which type or strength to use! I don't have acne, and I rarely get zits (normally only during "that" time of the month). Apparently I've had two cystic pimples in my life, which did leave small dark spots. So, I reckon you could say I don't really need a peel, right? I exfoliate twice a week, and my skincare regimen is working well already.

So, I ask of you this: (1) Should I even bother with a peel? (2) Which type and strength? and (3) How often would I use it? TIA!!

if there's nothing wrong w/your skin, adding a peel might make it worse .. iono ... I would be too chicken to risk it. i say just stick w/your regimen

Well Aquilah, a peel was originally designed to stimulate the production of more collagen in the skin. Everybody needs this to stay young looking. Once you get to a certain point, it's really hard to go back and try to recapture what you once had. So I'd say start a regimine now, if not for the texture, do it for the future years.

I have a friend that is 56 and she has used peels on her face, neck and hands. This woman has soft, smooth skin. It really amazes me that her neck is so baby soft still...no wrinkles, no looseness, no sagging, no wiggle-jiggle. She has firm taut skin, with nary a fine line and that is AMAZING to me. She has been using peels since her 30s. She is a fine example how one can look approaching their 60s if they take excellent care of their skin elasticy from a young age. She tells me to start this regimine now that I am young, and I will look ten times better than she does at that age since I am not white skinned like her.

I guess that shows you are never too young to start caring for your skin's future.

Hmm if you already have nice skin I'd just try the lowest strength, but if you decide to go for a stronger one, let us know how it goes.

It doesn't sound like you need a peel. I'd try to keep your regime as simple as possible if it's already working good for you. If you do, I'd try lactic..it's great for people who are beginners with peels and it's very mild. Start with that, and if you want to continue you can increase it. I get my peels from makeupartistschoice.com They have a lot of info on there too.

Hi Aquilah, Since your skincare program works well for you, I wouldn't alter it. If you're curious about the effects of a peel, then get a gentle one.

Agree with everyone's comments. Well, if you don't have anything that bothered you, like blackheads, pimple or wrinkles problem then you don't really need it. Anyway, IMO peel is not only made for skin with trouble but you can also use it to prevent premature aging. If you want to try, try the lower percentage or lactic acid as mentioned. Since, I don't like the facial scrub, I do peel only once a week to remove dead cell and to stimulates new skin cell to grow.

i agree with the other ladies. if it ain't broke... your skin is gorgeous and i wouldn't change a thing until absolutely necessary. believe me, when it's time to be more aggressive you'll know it. enjoy this hassle free time and be happy!

Thanks everyone! I'm deathly afraid of trying something new and screwing up my skin! When we first moved to NY, I did get a lot more breakouts since my skin was getting used to the water. It calmed down relatively soon though.

I'm hoping I'm blessed with good skin that never needs a lot done to it. My mom just turned 47 and still looks as young as 18! She's always just used Dove bar soap, St. Ives Apricot Scrub, and some misc. body lotion!

So, I think maybe I'll debate a little longer... If I decide on a peel, I'll definitely go with a lower one (like Paula's Choice BHA 1% or 2%). Thanks so much again for the advice everyone!

A Peel is great to stay looking young, its always good to use a peel for maintenance if you are on a good daily skincare regimen. When to start having peels thats up to you. You can start as early as 25 yo for maintenance or as young as 16 yo for acne. What kind depends on your skin type and ethnicity has alot to do with types and their are alot out there. I have Physicians Choice peels about every 2-3 months just for maintenance keep looking young I am 36 and I started at 27 and I look like I am 31 or even younger.

Good Luck
