Skincare products from cosmetic companies

How do you feel about them? I always have this nagging suspicion that despite the price and claims of efficacy, they wouldn't be as effective as those from a company that makes exclusively skincare products, since it would be a secondary venture for them. Has anyone use Dior, Chanel, Lancome, etc products and found them to work really well? Or do you, like me, shy away from them and prefer to keep your cosmetics and skincare brands separate?

I've never tried any of them. To be quite frank, I'm not interested in purchasing anything right now. If I received a nice sized sample, and liked the way it performed, I would re-think purchasing the product.

I have tried products from Lancome and Estee Lauder, before I knew better. I actually used them for a couple of years. Some were pretty good but no miracle workers. Since joining the board I've known more about skin care and have found more effective products for less.

I used Clinique's 3-step system and I hated it! It made my skin worse! So much for being designed by dermatologists...

That said, however, I do like all of the skincare available at Kohl's (and all those companies are part of Estee Lauder's umbrella). I'm also a fan of Mario Badescu, but they're strictly skincare.

I have used Lancome in the past but didn't like it because it was highly scented. Now I use Dermalogica and it works much better for me.

I think you have to look at the line itself. Some lines are primarily there for skincare and only sell makeup because they "have to" and other lines are vice versa. I personally like color from MAC and Bobbi Brown, but wouldn't necessarily use any other products from those lines. I've noticed other lines that started as skincare and are now gradually adding color. It all depends on the company.
