Hi Everyone,

I just turned 30 earlier this year and just started to look into an anti-aging skin care. I hope it's not too late to start my anti-aging regiment at this point! So far, I've been just using a drugstore cleanser, toner and a basic moisturizer that has a SPF15. I'm also wearing a SPF70 during the days, and wear a night time moisturizer and eye cream.

I have combination skin, gets slightly shiny in my T-Zone and slightly drier on my cheeks. I have a pretty clear complexion, and no signs of wrinkles on the surface yet (Phew!). The products I've been using are products that I've used since my mid-20s. I've realized I need change my regiment and products to prevent aging.

There are so many products out there, I don't know where to start! I'm new to this. I'm willing to spend money, but I just don't want to blindly buy products. Any suggestions or recommendations? Any products you ladies swear by? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

A huge thanks in advance!

I think those cosmetic companies want you to think that you are a ticking time bomb of wrinkles where you turn 30 and booom! You are going to get wrinkles. If you were taking good care of your skin when you were 17-29 then you most likely can continue doing what previously was working for you in the day before.

Sunscreen is your best friend in preventing wrinkles but that should have been your best friend when you were 17. Drink lots of water everyday.

You may find such a drastic change to your regimen more detrimental than helpful because your skin gets used to having certain products and may not like the contents of the new products. If you want a change because you're tired of your old stuff, change them one at a time and over a couple of months. This way, you can see how your skin responds to each product. If you don't, and you have an allergic reaction, you won't know which one you are reacting to.

As I age, I've been moving towards the all natural stuff. I make my own toner from witchhazel distillate and rose water. I make my own oil cleanser from jojoba and castor oils. I also make my own castile soaps to cleans my face and the rest of me. I also use it as shampoo. I would suggest you give those options a try.

Enjoy life and what it brings. Everyone will grow old but its the life in the lines that matters in the end.

Hi,

sounds like you have been treating your skin well so far. Sunscreen will continue to be your best friend to prevent premature ageing!

I would like to recommend a website with lots of videos on skincare, by dermatologist Dr. Neil Schultz

Skin Care Tips & Acne Help by Online Dermatologist

In terms of products, I can really recommend prescription Retin-A (active ingredient tretinoin, one of the rare ingredients that has scientifically proven anti-ageing benefits. Over the years, many studies have been conducted that have confirmed that tretinoin helps build new collagen. Many expensive creams claim to build new collagen as well, but they often just plump up the skin by adding moisture, which gives the illusion of decreased wrinkles).

Dr Schultz also recommends daily exfoliation to further stimulate collagen production (i.e. in the form of Retin-A or glycolic serums, creams or peels)

Sunscreen is still your best friend. The one thing you could use, if you feel the need to, is a serum. I currently use one that claims to be anti aging, but i like to use it because it provides an extra moisture my skin needs.

I agree with the rest. sunscreen is a must. My mom has engrained that in my brain and she's 50 and looks like she could be my sister

Thanks ladies! It's good to know that at least I got the SPF down right all these years! I'm pretty light and will burn easily even if I'm just out and about, shopping or taking a quick stroll with my dogs. So I wear it religiously.

By the way, what is the difference between sunblock and sunscreen? Which one is actually better for us?
