I recently started to use a face / skin serum before I put on before my regular face cream.

I have combined - oily - acne prone skin.

I was wondering if you ladies use a serum if so which one and what is your skin type?

How long have you been using it. what does it do for your skin? ...etc :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have a combination skin, sensitive.

I have a blend of oils and pomegranate extract i apply at night for my eyes, i also have a moisturising gel from Themis, it's not labelled serum but it acts like it. It brings a lot of hydration to your face, i apply it at night before my moisturizer, and during the day under my sunscreen.

One i absolutely love for the antiaging property and the hydration it provides is Pure Altitude's antiaging serum. It's a swiss brand, but sadly the small pump bottle costs too much for my purse.

I have sensitive, normal-to-dry skin. Can be clog prone, mild surface redness. I'm 24. AM: Murad Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum. If you were combination/slightly oily, I think you'd be able to use it in place of moisturizer. It's pretty hydrating. I've used this since February of 2011. PM: Caudalie Pulpe Vitaminee 1st Wrinkle Serum. I stopped using this awhile, to use the Murad twice a day. I missed this, but since I find I have to use a lot (2-3 pumps versus 1 for the Murad) to get my entire face, I just use it at night. I've used this since August of 2010.

M skin is very oily on the T-zone and normal on the cheeks. I´m currently using Paula´s Choice Resist Antioxidant Serum. I don´t like how it makes my face very shiny, but I only use it at night and I`m only using it for the ingredients in the first place so it doesn´t bother me too much. I know they have a matte finish serum too so I may try that next.

It´s not doing much for my skin right now because antioxidants don´t have an immediate benefit - they´re part of an anti-aging regimen for me, so I´m trying to delay the aging process. I did feel like it may have helped the skin heal faster after my last TCA peel, but that could have been just my imagination.

Btw, I used to think serums are something special, but the word serum just describes the products often more fluid texture. And yes sometimes a serum has more helpful ingredients than a moisturizer (and is costs more!). But with a lot of products, the serum is just a plain moisturizer in a thin form, which can be great for people with oily skin that want a very light moisturizer

I agree. My Pure altitude serum contains a main ingredient edelweiss extract which is a powerful antioxidant, but i also loved it for the light texture and the hydration it provided. I think it really depends on what people want, but usually when i think serum i think powerful, concentrated formula with specific properties.

how funny, Edelweiss is Austria´s national flower. But it´s protected in every country it grows I think, so I wonder how they are able to use it in skincare?

wonderful reply on this thread...

I wanted to update on what I have found after researching on serums I will write a brief post about it.

I am currently testing alverde serum alpenrose (for skin over 20+)

So far good, I use it 3- 5 times a week either in the morning or evening (once a day only)

I found so many other good products (based on reviews)

I am currently looking into the following products:

Have any of your heard about them or know anything about them :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

  • Naturallogic
  • Sonia Dakar . Organic Omega Booster – Oily/Combination Skin
  • MyChelle Clear Skin Serum, 1-Ounce Bottle
  • Yum Gourmet Skincare Carrot Serum for Oily Skin

  • Glycolic C super serum

My supplier indicates it comes from organic agriculture, in Switzerland. I think it's only the wild eldelweiss that's protected.

i received a little sample of bobbi brown's serum ive been using it for a week and i haven't really seen any significant difference. it's suppose to be anti aging, maybe if i keep using it it'll delay aging and help with prevention :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Anything you try for one week will not have any visible effect, your face's skin renews itself entirely in at least a month so that's something to take into account when you are using a product, especially in antiaging/antiwrinkles treatments, their effects show up only on the long term. One thing i find very true is something my mother told me when i was younger : she said once you start using an antiaging product, you never stop.

Any product, and i have in mind one specifically, that labels "visible effects in a week" for example, is a marketing ploy.

I agree, with the exception of maybe a chemical exfoliant. Wrinkles don´t disappear that fast of course, but chemical exfoliants can give you a glow pretty soon, especially when someone with dull, mature, sun damaged skin first starts using them.

Serums are great, I prefer them over creams.  Excel Skin Care has two great ones in B-5 and Hydra Peptide.  I originally came across the company when I was searching for stretch marks.  The cream worked great in lightening and fading the marks.  I now use the serums for wrinkles and fine lines.  They have a store on Amazon and their prices are good on there.

I Love 'A Perfect World' Serum from Origins, A serum Is NOt a Moisturizer & Is basically your skinns medicine before your moisturizer  They have brighting serums, aging, serums, age prevention serums, etc etc But I lOve A Perfect world because it feels very similiar to Smashbox Photo Finish Very smooooooth!!! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Skin type: Combination, extremely clog-prone and mild acne.

I like Grassroot's Vitamin C Brightening serum. It helped acne spots fade a little quicker and my cheeks didn't seem to be as red as they could be. They also have a Pomegranate one that I think I'm going to try next.

Look for serums which have a LOT of hyaluronic acid in them, NO silicones. That acid is extremely hydrating. Actually, it attracts moisture to the skin without making it produce oil or giving you a shine to your face. Isomers makes some killer serums. One I use, and I have oily skin, is their Skin Lifting serum. $35 or so for 50ml. I use it because it has beta glucan in it (oat extract) which really helps with oily skin and blemishes, scarring, etc as well as being anti-aging. Another very good one they have, but a lot more expensive, is their One 3000 face serum. I think it's called the All in One face serum now. Very high in hyaluronic acid and nothing nasty in it. About $99 for 50ml. Sign up for their newsletters and they often send out 'lab specials' with which you can get a tonne of their expensive products for next to nothing. They do this on a regular basis. They are also on Facebook and have a blog-radio thing going. They are actually cosmetic chemists, her and her husband. The products are made in Canada in their own lab. Not produced elsewhere and then sold in the country, like so many brands are.

The only other brand I could recommend for this is Juice Beauty. I have been testing out some of their stuff recently and it is spectacular. Their ingredients are also beyond great. One I recommend but have not used yet is Auspect, because their ingredients are really top quality. They are an Australian brand.

I cannot stand the ingredients in Paula's stuff, personally. She is really full of it on so many levels it isn't even funny.....

I wonder if because a moisturizer is jam packed with more stuff means your skin will (read: has the ability to) absorb more stuff... Hmmm..

Going to look that up and Juice Beauty's products.

I use two different serums.  One on my face and one for my eyes.  The one I wear for my face is Clinique's Even Better Cliniical Dark Spot Corrector.  The serum I use on my eyes is Clinique's All About Eyes Serum De-puffing Eye Massage.  I use both after my regular moisturizer, which is Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizer.  I feel a huge difference between when I wear my serums and when I don't.  My skin doesn't look near as dewy and fresh, and it doesn't feel as soft either.   They are spendy products, but I will replace when finished!

Yes, I use different products for my yes as well. I use the One 3000 for eye from Isomers for that, as well as their eye lift serum. Been using them for the past 3 years and at 43 have no major wrinkles around the eyes. Actually, I can't see *any* wrinkles around my eyes, and I don't have any under-eye circles which I would consider 'dark', not by any stretch of the imagination.

Juice Beauty and Auspect seriously are some of the highest quality products I have come across, other than Isomers. But whereas Isomers is based mainly in 'science' and the owners of the company being real cosmetic chemists, Juice Beauty and Auspect are based more in 'natural' anti-aging and skin clearing. They are all worth a look, for sure. I have recently become concerned about Iomers change from parabens to non-parabens as a preservative. Sounds like something positive, but there is huge reason for concern when any company does this. Was looking at so many so-called 'organic' products in the US yesterday and was utterly shocked and disgusted with the amount of chemicals and other crap in them, yet they have the balls to claim these are 'natural' products. I especially get pissed when I see the claim 'paraben free', and then read the label to find preservatives which are likely worse than parabens, which most consumers are clueless about. Really makes me angry.
