I've been using self tan to try and get a nice glow amidst the miserable winter weather. My friend uses a Loreal Sublime Bronze, Tinted and Shimmering self tan and has a lovely brown tan. However, I bought the same one and applied it every night and it certainly isnt brown on me! More of a jaundiced tan! Has anyone else noticed this? My friend doesnt have a particulary tanned skin without using sunbeds or fake tan but how come the colour is different on everyone?

It could definately happen, probably because you have different skin tones and oils on your skin, what you use as a body wash, etc. They turn me yellow and orange too, so the most I'll do in the form of a self-tanner is Jergens healthy glow.

Like someone said already, it's a person's individual skin chemistry. Everyone's sweat and oil has an ever so slightly different composition ratio of protiens, salts, acids, water. Your body may manifest the color in a different way than your friend in the way of not breaking down the carotene (the yellowish stuff) the way her skin does, and maybe your friend neutralizes the rouge (or whatever the orange stuff they put in there is)at a slower rate than you do. I think there is a self tanner out there for everyone. What will work wonders for you, may not even come close to looking as good on her and vice versa. Experiment, you may find something really nice.

Ooh that's a scientific answer missus! Thanks very much - I understand about the different oils and stuff that's probably the most likely thing. They do go yellow on me and my mum - when I have a natural tan from a holiday once it starts to fade I do go a bit yellow, i look jaundiced lol!!

I've decided to just stick with Dove Summer Glow with the part moisturiser and part tanning agent - at least that way it'll look more natural and won't streak!

Thanks for your help everyone!
