I looked up seborrhea dermatitis but alot of the conditions people have of it are much worse so I thought I'd ask here....

My nose is very flaky all the time no matter how much I exfoliate and how much I moisturize...I've tried pretty much every exfoliate out there and many moisturizers but it's always flaky. I love makeup but I always have to be very careful when putting makeup on my nose and around it so it won't flake up.

First time I noticed this was when I was about 15, my Mom brought home a face wash from the cosmetologist (my skin was very oily and lots of acne) but no one told me to use moisturizer so at first the face wash was working for me and helped dry up the acne and oils but then I noticed it really dried up my face bad and left it very flaky...not sure if that's really what started it but thought I would mention it.

As an adult my face is now combine, my T-zone is oily and I get lots of blackheads on my nose and chin. this just doesn't make sense to me that my nose has a really oily base yet it's so flaky to the touch.

Does this look like seborrhea or could it be something else? I don't have money to see a dermatologist and not sure if my insurance will cover for a skin doctor...can I just make an appointment with my regular doctor or is there some thing natural I can do at home?

Thanks!

You are Canadian. If you get a referral then you don't have to pay. Go thru your family doctor first and get a referral to see a dermatologist. Maybe your doctor will be able to tell you without going to a derm.

Thanks Divadoll for the reply. Sorry I think I'm confusing you guys, I don't live in Canada anymore, I live in California. I'm gonna go try to change my flag now.

I was wondering why you were mentioning $$ and doctors in the same sentence.

Maybe you need a trip to BC

I'm a seborrhea suffer myself. I tend to get flare ups, mainly around the corners of my mouth and in the creases around the nose and more during the winter, dryer months. I also have touches of it in my eyebrows and scalp. My derm really didn't prescribe much for me other than an anti-itch lotion for my scalp. I use OTC seborrhea shampoo for my scalp and once in a while I've used that on my trouble areas (not the eyebrows though) when dealing with flare ups.

I'm no dr., but it does sound like you might have seborrhea issues. You describe some of the same issues I deal with, I've been known to take a wash cloth and scrub around my nose and mouth, and seems like there is never enough moisturizer to help. I'm still trying to get a grip on it, though I have been told to deal with the scalp first and that will help lessen my facial flare ups.

You can try a microfibre facial cloth. I've read it's great at taking off peelies and flaky skin. I use it to remove makeup. It does a great job at removing the oils I use.
