my lips get chapped and I use chap stick, gloss, etc. I pick the skin off...can anyone recommend a lip exfoliant? thanks!

lightly rubbing your lips in circular movement with a toothbrush helps, then apply vaseline after.

MK Satin Lips Set. It really helps! Alas, the cheaper alternative is the dry toothbrush. And I recommend Smith's Rosebud Salve as a balm afterwards ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

You can also apply either sugar or baking soda to the toothbrush, and brush gently for a few seconds. Follow with vaseline or a lip balm.

Thank y'all for your suggestions. I am at work and found a really old pack of Nutrasweet in the bottom of my desk and rubbed it on my lips with gloss and the dry skin came right off! sure the sugar would taste better and work better since it is grainier than nutrasweet, but I was desperate! I found Smashbox has a lip exfoliant which has castor oil and sugar as the first 2 ingredients for $18!!!

I have learned so much from you guys on this site! And even though I am a grandmother, I am not going down without a fight!

I just give my lips a once-over with my electric toothbrush whenever I use it, and I've never had a problem with flakey lips.

I've used the toothbrush method but I never thought to add sugar/something else, thanks for the tips everyone!

I also use my toothbrush every evening + vaseline on lips (and dry patch on my face, btw!!) before going to sleep. It works wonder!!

I hate the toothbrush method, imy lips just feel so raw and sting afterwards...I use BodyShop's Lipscruff, Mark Kiss Xpert, and Tarte Frxtion, all of which are fantastic.

I know, that is a lot but I love how they feel and they have better results then just a balm. I do want to get the Smashbox one you mentioned as well...lol I am addicted

I second the Body Shop Lipscuff! The stuff is awesome. It's a little grainy, but has a minty taste and it softens at the same time.

Carmex lip balm does the same for $1.29 or less. This is why I'ved been a faithful user for many years. It contains the exfoliant salicylic acid, and can be purchased in drugstores, gas stations, Walmart, eBay, etc!

Ditto too. But wet the brush, then apply vaseline and then scrub. Thats what I do, I haven't tried the vaseline after though.

I have the CO Bigelow Lip scrub... but I really prefer just using a damp washcloth to exfoliate my lips if they are flakey, and then put on a balm afterwards.
