First of all, I'm freaking out because I just found out that I'm pregnant with our 3rd child!! We are very, very happy, and very blessed, but kind of scared, too.

Anyway, I am a bit concerned about a few products that I've been using lately and whether or not they may be harmful to my baby-to-be. I use MD Formulations Cleanser for oily skin sometimes which has glycolic acid in it, Clinique Clarifying Makeup that contains salyclic (sp?) acid, and I sometimes spot treat with Neutrogena's On-the-Spot Benzoyl Peroxide.

So, glycolic acid, salyclic acid and BP...are these ok during pregnancy?

My appointment to see the doctor is not until next week Friday. I will certainly address my concerns with her then.

Generally, you will see CONSULT PHYSICIAN IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, NURSING etc. before using - or something of the sort. I don't know how much that applies to skincare, though. Anyone else?

Thanks, girls, for your kind words and your info!!! I really, really appreciate it. Now I'm a bit worried...cause I've been using Clinique Clarifying makeup with salicyclic (sp? just can't get that one right) acid in it, and I love it. Darn. Now I have to go on another foundation search!

I'll also see what the doctor has to say...

Thanks for the info, Kim. You guys are super sweet.

I looked at the boxes of my moisturizer, Neutrogena's Visibly Even (which contains a salicylic acid, and of my Clinique's Clarifying Makeup and there are no warning labels. But those articles make me very concerned. I just left a message for my doctor...hopefully, I get some answers today, so I don't have to wait til next week.

Wooohoo! Another baby, that is great!

After reading the article you may want to stick to mom instincts first. Some doctors think it is ok and others will not. I would go with your thought even if the doctor says it is ok.

i've no info for you, but CONGRATULATIONS! you are seriously one of the best mothers i've come across because i can see how much you really love your kids and you deserve all the happiness in the world :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> keep us posted!

Congrats on baby #3! I would definately stay away from salicylic acid in any amount. It is a derivative of aspirin (or the other way around-I can't remember) and you wouldn't take aspirin internally when pregnant ( only small amounts of tylenol are safe when pregnant) therefore I would stay away frome it. On the other hand, my daughter is 5 1/2 years old already and so much has changed since I was pregnant with her. I guess your best bet would be to simply check with your OB. I wouldn't worry too much though.

Aaaawww..thanks, Jennifer! That was so sweet of you to say. I almost cried when I read your message. Ugh, the hormones! Anway, thank you for your kind words. My children are really the most wonderful part of my life (along with my husband and parents), and I am so lucky to have them. I also realize how lucky I am to be pregnant, a lot of women my age have a hard time conceiving.

I called my doctor yesterday, and she said since it's such a small amount of salicylic acid in the makeup that it should be ok. And, the girls at the Clinique counter stated the same thing. They are taught in training that since it's such a low percentage that it is still safe for pregnant and nursing women. It still makes me a little uneasy, and I am on a quest to look for new makeup! However, my skin is clearing up and glowing on it's own, so maybe I don't need to use that much makeup anyways! Yeesh, I wish I had clear skin all the time, not just when pregnant.

Also, I did a little research and found out that some women are actually prescribed low doses of aspirin (for certain medical reasons) during pregnancy. This is news to me. When I was pregnant with my other children, I was taught aspirin is a big no-no.

Ok, girls. I have my ultrasound appointment next Friday. I'll keep you guys posted!!
