Hi girls, i'm planning a pregnancy in these days. But i'm so afraid to have stretch marks on my tummy and my breasts like my mom. I read in somewhere that it's genetic. :icon_sad:

So, what can i do about it? :confused:

Do you know any good creams for prevention?:icon_roll

Preventing Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

Nobody wants to develop stretch marks, but when you’re pregnant you know that, along with nausea, fatigue, backaches and frequent urination, stretch marks are another distinct, unpleasant possibility. In truth, between 75 and 90 percent of all pregnant women (90 percent of white women) develop stretch marks during pregnancy. Look for the angry red lines to appear on your bulging abdomen, usually during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. But don’t stop there - there are a few other places you might want to check, too. Unfortunately, stretch marks also can show up on other areas that tend to get larger during pregnancy. These include the upper thighs, buttocks, breasts and even arms, depending on the amount of weight gain, your genetic history, and whether or not you make a concerted effort to prevent stretch marks.

So what can you do to beat the odds and prevent stretch marks? Scientists argue about just what you can do for prevention, but one thing is fairly certain: genetics do appear to play a role in whether or not you are predisposed to getting stretch marks. This means that if your mother got stretch marks during pregnancy, you may be more likely to get them yourself. However, there are some things you can do to limit the possibility of getting stretch marks. Following these guidelines, all of which are good for your overall health and the condition of your skin, will go a long way toward putting the odds in your favor.

[*][*]Eat a healthy, diverse and balanced diet that keeps your weight gain within the recommended range of 25 to 35 pounds. Excellent nutritional status is vital for your developing baby, but it also contributes to the strength and health of the body’s largest organ: the skin. What’s more, a controlled and steady weight gain, without any wild upward swings, will let your skin stretch at a steady rate without any unexpected jolts. [*]Use a body brush or wash cloth to massage the areas where you have stretch marks, or want to prevent stretch marks from appearing - this will increase circulation to the area, which may be helpful.[*]Drink plenty of water. Hydration is important for your overall health and well-being as well as that of your growing baby, and it is critical to healthy skin.[*]Take your vitamins. This is one more way to ensure proper nutritional status, which is critical for your overall health and well-being, as well as beautiful skin and a healthy baby![*]Keep skin liberally and effectively moisturized beginning in the first or second trimester and through your recovery to your pre-pregnancy weight, perhaps with one of the many oils and creams marketed especially for stretch mark prevention. These moisturizers will help keep your skin supple and elastic plus serve as “food†(and vitamin supplements) for your skin. The various vitamins and oils used to create these formulas are designed to help enhance collagen production and support the dermis, to keep skin intact despite the rigorous stretching.

Remember that it is important to take care of yourself during the postpartum period as well. The dramatic weight loss makes your skin susceptible to stretch marks once again. In addition, you certainly need to keep your whole body strong to cope with the stresses of recovery from childbirth and the demanding duties of motherhood.

If you do follow all of these guidelines yet still develop stretch marks, don’t despair. They will fade in time to small silvery lines, and become much less noticeable. Yet for the relatively small price of a few minor imperfections in your skin (and perhaps a few lingering bulges around your midsection), you will have the overwhelming privilege of serving as mother to the tiny, helpless little bundle of joy you hold so gently in your arms.

I'm gonna try to do all of these things, actually i already do them;

i always drink a lot water, healthy nutrition is important to me, i always massage my body in the shower (with The Body Shop products;) ), i like to use body lotions also.

The only thing i have to do is not to gain weight too much. :smileno:

Ohh congrats on your pregnancy!

I don't really know how to prevent or what to use, but I remember my mother used to be afraid and worried about stretch mark on her tummy or other body parts when she was pregnant. I think she used to avoid scratching her skin (specially tummy).

Look for a product called "Mother's Special Blend" skin toning oil. It softens and elasticizes your skin helping to prevent stretch marks. It absorbs really fast and never sticks to you like shea butter does. Well, Im 8 months pregnant right now with number 2.... I have a few stretch marks this time around. They are mild and will probably fade once I'm back in shape. I have gained 45 lbs so far and did last time as well. ( DONT WORRY _ IT COMES OFF LOL )

I have moisturized like a maniac, drunk water till my eyes floated and still got them yet my best friend hasn't any. Luck of the draw my dear , although you cant toally prevent them, you can lessen the chances :icon_smil

My cousin used Lierac stretch mark lotion when she was pregnant, she recommend it to me. Even her skin is too dry, she doesn't have any stretch marks now.She says many of her friends used this brand. Maybe i'll try it too...

 
besides good genes, diet and exercise, a little cocoa butter body butter from body shop doesn't hurt.

i used cocoa butter when i was pregnant and it worked for me cos i didnt have any stretch marks

 
I do believe that it's mostly genetic...my mom did not get stretch marks, and so far with my first two pregnancies, I don't get them either. I did put all kinds of oils and cocoa butter on with my first, but with my second, and probably with this one, I just don't have the luxury of time.

My girlfriend, who's Filipina, has very dark, olive skin, and got horrible, dark, purple stretch marks that didn't fade. She tried everything, too.

I think it's an excellent idea to moisturize and try to prevent stretch marks, but, unfortunately, I do think it's mostly hereditary.

I forgot to mention about using ginger stuff to prevent stretch mark.

 
Carol's Daughter has a belly butter that should help prevent stretch marks. Also try mixing cocoa butter and vitamin E

 
try not to gain too much weight or weight too fast. also try not to take in a lot of carbs or you'll retain a lot of water which can also make you big fast and cause stretch marks( like drinking a lot of juice, cereals etc.) it also depends on how much elasticity your skin has. but you can also use cocoa butter and vitamin e oil. which are both good for scarring and stretch marks which are basically the same thing. oh and exercise.

 
Stretchmarks are really genetic, but 'warrior marks" of you having your beautiful baby. Most people I know do not care or even think superficially about it! You probably won't, either after the baby is born. No cream, etc. in the world is going to help.

What can help? Trying not to gain weight too fast or too much of it. Just eat really healthy, walk, and drink tons of water. Try not to stress out, either, b/c cortisol is related to belly weight/stretchmarks. That's about all we can do.

I'm sure your mom was beautiful and you looked beyond her stretchmarks : ) LOL

No, it does not. I think the Vitamin E (promoters) somehow got women to believe that so they'd buy it up!

 
Cocoa butter hands down....I used it during my preganancy and again after and have ZERO stretch marks on my belly
