I've tried them all... my gfs tried them all.... and yet I'm in my mid-20's still with really bad skin.

Don't you wish there was someone out there who could really look at your skin and pick the best products for you? I feel like there is so much more trial and error with skincare than with MU, and since it usually takes so much more time to see the true results (if any) from a new skincare item, I'm generally stuck with more skincare that doesn't work for me than cosmetics.

Sorry I'm not sure if this is a question or me venting but I'm sure lots of you go through the same thing!

Anyone have any advice? Who do you go to for help? Do you just go by people's recs? How do you pick products that work for you?

thanks!

Finding skin care is harder than makeup! I found something I really liked and used it for 2+ years and then it seemed to stop working so I'm on the hunt again! It would be nice to be rich like a celebrity and just go to a specialist who takes care of it all for you

hi kim thanks for your reply! yes, that's exactly what i'm talking about.. i guess with makeup it's so much more instant to know if something isn't working for you, but i hate just waiting and waiting with skincare.

my current problem is that i feel like my skin looks stripped and very dry (even though i exfoliate often and gently) but gets very oilily, more so than it has been in years! i also have a lot of conjestion on my chin and get dark marks after breakouts. also my skin surface suffers from acne scars.

my first order of business is to deal with the breakouts and try to get them under control. then it's with the oiliness.

i am currently using:

either kanebo cleansing gel or shu light cleaning oil for makeup removal

kanebo creamy soap (foaming cleanser - just started using this. switched from erno laszlo mud soap in summer)

EL - light controlling lotion (toner)

EL - phelityl lotion spf 15

sometimes I'll use Laszlo Shake It.

When I break out I use Mario Badesco buffering lotion. I like this a lot.

At first, I felt like this line was incredibly stripping but then it seemed to be fine. Now I'm not so sure and don't really know where I want to go from here! Help!

If you are really having problems finding skin care, talk to a dermatologist! My dermatologist was always telling me what products I could and could not use with my skin (cleansers, makeup, hair care, etc) in addition to prescribing acne medications for me!

If you are having problems with oily skin and acne, I have some information in my notepad, just click the link in my signature!

hmmm well i would start from the inside out. meaning make sure you are getting all your nutrients. take a good multi vitamin and iron everyday (you get what you pay for with vitamins ) go to health food store or somewhere like that , hopefully you will find someone knowledgeable like i did who can look at you and tell you what your needing.

for instance my hair was breaking off and not growing due to hormone imbalance caused by my thyroid. (i got the throid problem fixed first of course ) so i bought some shampoo she rec. and she gave me advice on what vits. and herbs i needed to get my metabolism back in shape. i must say it does seem to be helping and yes again it is a waiting game for the things to build up in your blood and tissues etc... but well worth wait, cause my hair is growing the grey hair is actually going away too. now i work on my own doing research and consulting with my health food store and i am tweaking and changing things as i go along. just make sure you do your research ,vits and herbs are medication just like what you get at the pharmacy so be careful and look up and read , read , read everything before you start this approach.

next i wanted faster results for my skin and i think we may have some of the same problems my skin seemed dull, dry yet oddly it would get oily. and break out the harder i tried the worse it got, i think my problem was i was doing too much and too much of the wrong thing. so my skin was trying to compinsate for the dryness by producing more oil, causing a back and forth effect and getting no where. so i took a break from everything (except of course a mild soap) for about 2 weeks (longest 2 weeks of my life cause i am a product junky) then i started out fresh, i use microderm abrasion , camila oil with grape seed extract and derma butter and my skin has never felt better i actually have dry to normal skin i was just stipping it too much that is why is was getting oily, i do use some presciptions ( i am alot older than you though, i think you may can get by without presciptions unless you have sun damage or hormone problems) and even now i take a break let my skin breathe and get some oxygen and just go with nothing, mostly on the weekends when i dont have to go out so much. when i do use products i like the natural oils except of course for the RX scripts i use but hope to get rid of those after the intial problems are resolved.

things i used

expidermx microderm abrasion to clear up acne and rough spot,

expidermx derambutter and their camila and grapseed oil

capsiderm was great for my acne

renova sun damage, wrinkles, dark spots (this is a script)

i find if i use the same thing over and over it gets to where it does not work (especially with hair care products), so i try to switch up product lines every few months.

Why not go for a Dermalogica skin consultation? They do 'Face Mapping' which analyses different sections of your skin and face and they treat each area/problem with a taylor made prescription. They can tell you about your general health just by looking at your skin.

Have you tried Mary Kay products at all? Because all of their products are 100% guaranteed. If it does not work for you, return it or exchange it for something better. Mary Kay has a whole myriad of different combinations for all types of skincare needs. I recently cleared up an ongoing mini-acne problem by simply switching the products that I was using.
