My mom and I were discussing dry winter skin the other day and a news item she had seen about olive oil. She said my grandmother used to use it to condition her hair. I did some searching online and tried:

1/4 cup olive oil

1/8 cup apple cider vinegar (organic)

1/8 cup water

After washing my face at night, I apply this mixture. Supposedly, the vinegar helps to get rid of discolorations and the olive oil moisturizes. It really makes my skin soft.

I've also started using olive oil on the parts of my skin that are really dry and using after I get out of the shower instead of baby oil.

What other uses have you found for this wonderful oil? How is it different than using vasoline on your skin at night?

I tryed the olive oil thing with my hair.. but even after shampooing twice my hair was sooo oily the next day. Then I tried it on my face but found it too heavy. x

Does olive oil go bad? I saw something online about it going rancid, but we have ours for a while. I buy the big jugs at Sam's Club.

I've never had my olive oil go bad....all I've heard is that you're supposed to keep it in a cool dark place.

We have this really good extra-virgin olive oil that you can only get from one store, and it's sooo great for my skin! I rub it onto my face at night, blot the excess, and in the morning it's glowy and smooth. I don't do it every night, since that might be too much oil, but I do it enough to see real benefits.

I made this mix yesterday. i think i made too much.. hahaha

I've only used once so i am not sure how good this is.. but I found my face got red after using ACV..

Do you use other products after putting mixture??

No, I don't add anything else to it. My face didn't get red from it either. I just put it on my face and go to bed. The recipe I found on the Internet had:

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar

1/4 cup water

So, I cut that in half and it still made a lot. I put it in a little travel bottle and keep in the bathroom.

I just re-read it and it says vinegar - but not apple cider vinegar. I wonder if regular vinegar would make your face redden too?

Olive Oil In Your Beauty Routine?

Olive Oil In Your Beauty Routine?

By: Melissa Eaton

We all know that olive oil is wonderful and healthy for us to cook with, but what about its other uses? Truthfully, olive oil is another main ingredient in several beauty products you can buy on the shelf. See for yourself how you can make your own skin cocktails and save a little money at the same time.

1. A mixture of 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup vinegar, & 1/4 cup water used as a night cream will make your skin glow. The olive oil softens and moisturizes and the vinegar lightens discolorations, kills bacteria and loosens dead skin cells. Splash water on your face before applying.

2. Olive oil can be used as cleansing cream if your skin is dry.

3. For a facial, wet face thoroughly, then massage olive oil into your skin. Use about a half teaspoon of sugar and scrub your face with that, then wipe off gently with a warm, wet cloth until the sugar is all gone.

4. Use olive oil on your feet with clean white cotton socks. Helps to soften up you feet and it absorbs better than baby oil.

5. It seems when you pour olive oil out there is always a drip, so wipe it up with your hand and rub it in to your elbows. Wonderful softening properties.

6. Use olive oil as bath oil. Two to three tablespoons will do the trick.

7. Use olive oil for your hair. Not only does it condition, but it also gets rid of the frizz. Put a small drop into your palm & then rub both hands together & apply it to dry hair.

Just a few of the many creative uses for olive oil in your skin care routine. Not only is it cheap, but it will go alot further than most products you can buy. Have fun and be creative.

I use it as part of my cleansing regime - mixed 50/50 with castor oil, really adds a glow and sheen to my skin.

I also have a friend who is undergoing chemotherapy and it makes her skin very dry. she says the only thing that helps her skin after treatment is olive oil, no other body creams or lotions work as well...

I use Olive oil as my night moisturiser and i love it! I sometimes mix olive oil, water and ACV together but i have to make it fresh everyday because i cant stand the smell if its kept it in a bottle, but when i cant be bothered i just apply olive oil alone. I think its way better than vaseline.

You're right about the smell....it is a bit much. Do you use organic ACV or the regular stuff?

I put it on my skin every other night, and if I have nothing else around, I use it to take makeup off.

i do what everybody else seems to be doin - i put it all over my body, face, hair. it makes skin glowy tho it can be a bit too heavy for oilier skins. i think its a great emmolient. its good for takin make up off too. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was testing the vasoline as mentioned in the other thread, but I get better results with plain olive oil. I think the ACV was causing some red spots on my face, so I'm just using plain olive oil now for a moisturizer at night. Using it after my shower instead of baby oil keeps my skin softer throughout the day too.

my face is sooo dry after killing it with st ives apricot scrub..im gonna put olive oil on it before i go to bed! i hope it does a good job
