Hi. My face is very dry. Even when I put makeup on it looks cakey, no matter if it's light coverage, or med., or heavy. I want a natural flawless look. i heard someone say that they put some kind of oil on their face and its great and blah blah. I need some help. thanks guys

What kind of oil and where can i get it and how often do i use it?

well, choosing an oil of course depends on your skintype. i'd say jojoba, macadamia (it has this great hazelnut smell), coconut oils are great for dry skins. they are also absorbed quickly by the skin without leaving a greasy feeling as with other oils. i heard camelia's oil is good too, but i haven't tested it myself yet.

what i do is i put some oil on my face (not too much, just enough to spread on my face) then i wait a minute or two and apply my moisturizer over it. it works great.

some oils like olive, sunflower, sesame, can be found in you local supermarket, just make sure it's pure. for the others, healthfood stores or maybe some pharmacies (here we have para-pharmacies selling food supplements, oils and skincare products, this is where i get most of my products). you can also have them online.

Try these threads! As far as how often and how much, alot of it is just experimenting to find what works for you. I use the Coconut oil sometimes and it makes my skin feel awesome. Really soft. I just bought it in the Natural Food section of my grocery store. It comes in solid form, but it melted as soon as it hit my skin. hth

I don't think putting oil on your face is a good way to go. Like someone said, it could depend on your skin type... but I wouldn't suggest it. Oils can probably make you break out.

Here's something you could use that is very inexpensive and works out just fine: Pond's. The one with the babyblue cap, specifically. I think it is designed for very dry skin. I bought this when I was going through a dry spell (although I have oily skin) and it was just enough to get me back in balance.

Try it if you already haven't!

shea butter mixed with some oils like coconut and other essential oils will probably help you out. since shea butter can solidify, the oils tend to get solidified with it so its not runny. try this, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and about 4-5 spoons of shea butter (100% raw pure shea butter). shea butter is very moisturizing so this should help you out. mix everything or whip it like you would cream and its ready to be used!

I believe that he only truly noncomedogenic oils are: sunflower seed oil, safflower seed oil, mineral oil and castor oil. You probably don't want to slather 100% mineral oil on your face though, because it is so thick and sealing that it could make you break out just by trapping other comedogenic particles underneath the oil seal. Castor oil is also ultra thick and probably not good for putting on your face, because it isn't a very moisturizing oil. My skin is SUPER prone to clogged pores (they even get clogged when i put nothing on my face at all), but i haven't had any problems with safflower and sunflower seed oil. Sunflower is probably the more moisturizing of the two. Some people swear by jojoba oil, but even that made my skin break out after a few weeks of use. When using oil as a moisturizer, the most important thing is to only use a little bit and pat it on your face right after you get out of the shower and dry your face, so it is still a little damp.

Hi there,

Have u heard of Decleor? Is a french company who use essential oils in ALL them products.

Also they have an oil for dry/ sentitive skin called Aromessence Visage Neroli. This will sooth and bright your complexion.

Hope this helps,

I'm a big fan of oils. I've used a couple of different oils and I like camellia oil the best. The one I use is Silkia camellia oil. This oil just makes my skin soft, smooth, look healthy and glowy. It moisturizes my skin better than creams. I put the oil before makeup and the foundation just glides on and makes it last longer and doesn't look cakey. Before my makeup would look dried up and cakey after 2 or 3 hours but after using the Silkia oil it can last well until I remove it at night.

I use a combo or Bio-oil and camellia oil in place of moisturiser now, and the only time I suffer from dry spots in when I have to use something else in place of these (had a run of 3 days recently when I was away from home, and my skin went spotty with dry, flakey bits - uuurghhh!)

Bio-oil is a bit lighter than camellia oil, so I find it helps to use a combo of the 2, but either are excellent for dry skin
