I am looking into getting my nose pierced. I have wanted this for a long time. I work at a small private ladies gym. I haven't asked my owner if she would mind, but I am trying to get the guts to ask. It is just a small part-time job while I am in college, so its not like some big professional job. Those of you that have your nose pierced, where do you work that lets you wear it to work? Do any of you change your stud to something different for work?

My mother works at a retail store that sells cameras, photography supplies, and other such things. It's a pretty casual conservative environment. There's a girl who works with her who has her nose pierced, just a little stud. I was surprised she was allowed to have it, because the owners are kinda old fashioned... but they don't seem to care at all.

I've also seen girls working at the grocery store with pierced noses. I think it's becoming a lot more accepted, so I don't think your boss would really have a problem with it. It might help if you kept it to a small neutral coloured stud while at work... like just plain metal, or with a clear gem. Keep the flashier jewelry for when you're off.

I don't have my nose pierced but my cousin does and she works at a hair salon and is a waitress also. She was told to take it out I think but she ended up switching it to a tiny, very pretty stud and they never commented again. I think you should be okay, it seems very common nowadays!

I actually started a thread about this a while back and alot of the responses i got from the girls were just keep it neutral but you might have to have the ring at first which is going to be hard to hide

You can also buy clear retainers to put in the piercing to hold it open.

While it's healing you really don't want to take the piercing out, because when it's healing they can close really quickly. Once it is healed you'd be able to take it out for work and then put it back in.

When it's healing your piercer might recommend you start off with a hoop because they are easier to clean. They are more noticable, though, so I'm sure if you aren't allowed a hoop you could work something out.

I'd just ask, most places are very open minded about stuff like this. The worst thing your boss can do is say no.

Yeah, I am going to ask my boss and hope she says yes. I had planned to just have a clear stud for now anyway. I just hate to ask and her say no, cause then I will feel dumb for asking. Almost like, "that was a stupid question!!" But I REALLY REALLY REALLY want mine done. But I am definately going to ask before hand and not just show up with it. That is somewhat disrespectful to me. I have known people that have done that though.

i ha d a similar situation with u!!!! as i was a bar chick and the boss wwas strict but i wanted my tongue pierced!!! he was ok about just as long as i didnt stick it out or play with it etc etc. and still to do this day even when i talk u cant see it as it is back as i wanted it cause i will be gettin another one done!!!

As for the nose make sure u do ask, even tho it may be dumb but its better then getting fiired for it lol!!!

when u get it done make sure they use a gun and not a needle as i had mine done with a needle and it just wouldnt heal and i had a blister that wouldnt go away(had to go to hospital to get it taken out!!!! And my body has never rejected piercing like that before, i have 8 of them lol!!!

Anyways good luck!!!

I have heard that you shouldn't get it done with a gun. I heard they don't use guns anymore because they are bad to use on your nose.

they use them here in some places, i had the needle done it hrt like hell, and i actually dont mind pain lol!!!

Ummm if they use the needle make sure the place is tidy then, the place i went to will neve go to again!!!!! they do tats there also and altho they were clean etc i dont think she was who did it!!!

I am gonna get it done again but at a hair salon or beauty parlor much safer!!!

Eek, I would not recommend a piercing gun on your nose! Or anywhere else on your body, really. I had my ears pierced when I was 10 with a gun [didn't know any better] and mine turned out okay... but it's much more traumatic to your skin with a gun. It's basically just forcing the jewelry through your skin at high speed, which is more likely to damage it! With a needle, it is sharp enough that a clean hole is made and there's less stress put on your skin. Most, if not all, reputable piercers will not use a gun.

I work for a large company and don't have any public contact so my nose piercing is ok. A piercing gun is horrible and traumatizing to the skin. It also cannot be stearlized like a needle so it is not recommended.

Please do not use a gun ANYWHERE on your body! They cannot be cleaned properly and you can get hepatitis C from them! Not good!

A good piercer will use a new needle and put it in the autoclave so you won't get anything from it. I agree that no reputable piercer will use a gun on any part of your body. A piercing with a needle is much less likely to become infected and will heal better.

The places around here use a needle. I had my belly button pierced with a needle. I would be scared to have them use a gun, even if it hurt less with a gun. I ha e to ask my boss about my getting it done. I just have to suck it up and ask her cause I want it done real bad.

I had my nose pierced when I was 18.

Just a few warnings before my real response:

DON'T get it pierced with a gun.

Get the piercing a little higher than you will probably like it (you don't want the end of the screw sticking out of your nose)

Don't lay down -- sit up in their chair.

Get H20cean to clean your piercings -- good stuff.

Well anyway...if you get a small, little diamond stud or something it should be okay. I was never commented at work on it. If you get the flat disks...then maybe you'd have to take it out.

Just FYI: they don't give you small nose rings at first -- they usually have to be a certain size for a month, and then you can switch to something smaller if you'd like.

I asked the other lady (in her 40's) that works with me and my boss and she said she doesn't think it will be a big deal to my boss as long as it is like the stud and not like a ring. So now, all I have to do is ask my boss what she thinks. Wish me luck girls!!!

Good luck, and whatever you do NOT have it done with a gun. Never let anyone go near you with a gun, not even on ear lobes. And always go to a reputable, hygenic piercer for any piercing, not a beauty salon or jewellery shop - therapists and shop girls are not trained in body piercing.
