How do I determine what type of hair I have? I would like to use the proper shampoo for my hair, but i do not know how to tell if its oily, normal, or dry.

Thanks

Does your hair look dull or greasy if you don't shampoo it daily? Does it feel oily to the touch? Does it lose volume and become limp easily? If so, it's probably oily.

Does your hair look dull, lack shine, tangles easily, or have split ends? If so, it's probably dry.

Oily hair will feel sticky. It will look almost greasey. Most of the time real oily hair will itch too. It will be overly shiny and probably will stick to your head.

Dry hair will look fried and limp. It will feel crispy and crunchy. If your hair breaks easy and look like straw it is dry.

Normal hair will have a slight sheen to it and look and feel smooth.

To check which hair type you have, wash your hair as normal and let it dry naturally. The next morning, before washing your hair again, check for signs of dryness or oiliness. Your hair type will change if it cannot adjust naturally to changes in your environment. It will also probably change (both scalp and hair shaft becoming drier) if it is chemically coloured or permed. If your hair is neither pone to oiliness or dryness, you are one of the lucky few to have Normal Hair. Oily Hair Type feels slippery, you have an oily scalp and overactive sebum glands. Dry hair look dull, lifeless and parched; at its worst, it may look fuzzy and staw-like.
