Somehow I ended up on Nexxus' website and there's this new product called SleekMemory where it claims that as you use it, it trains your hair to "remember" its straight state! Sounds kind of interesting....

Anyone heard anything about it or tried it? I did a search and it came up with no results and nothing in the reviews either

I just started using it so I can't really tell you how it works just yet. I have yet to straighten my hair with it, but when I do I'll let you know. Also, fyi... it says its got a built-in heat protectant so that's a plus! It smells pretty good too.

Ok, I tried it out. Personally, I like it because it adds a lot of bounce to my dry, coarse hair. I used my Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment together with the Nexxus Sleek Memory and my hair was really soft (from the Ojon) and really bouncy and straight (from the Nexxus). I tried the Sleek Memory w/o the Ojon and my hair wasn't as soft nor as shiny. I also noticed that it made my hair straighter a bit easier than anything else I've used. The flat iron glided through my hair effortlessly and my hair came out really smooth. So, in combination with the Ojon, I like it a lot! Without, its still pretty good but I prefer my hair soft and bouncy rather than just bouncy.

So I guess the "memory" part rings true then...how much did you get it for?

Unless it has something like ultra mild relaxer in it, I just dont see how it could "train" your hair to remember being straight. Hair is dead! It doesnt work like that...

It makes me think of those people in placebo pill tests, they thought they were getting painkillers and they felt better, but it was only sugar pills. Maybe this is just marketing is what I mean lol, they want you to think this is some new shampoo that will make your hair straighter than ever, but Im sure there is something that gives you comparable results!

Sorry for the impromptu rant. To each their own lol. It doesnt even have anything to do with me, I have curly hair lol.

Hair doesn't have memory unless it's been chemically (permed/relaxed) treated. From the ingredient list below the product contains silicones which will build up on your hair. That may provide a coating that you are basically cooking onto your hair each time you heat/straighten it.

I found some reviews...

This revolutionary new leave-in spray teaches your hair to "remember" a straighter, sleeker state each time you straighten it. Over time, even freshly washed hair is straighter, smoother, and less frizzy.
ingredients:

Water (Aqua, Eau), Amodimethicone, Glycerin, DMDM Hydantoin, Propylene Glycol, PEG-12 Dimethicone, PVP, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Polysorbate 20, Cetylpyridinium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Trideceth-12, Cetrimonium Chloride, Benzophenone-4, Triethanolamine, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Salicylate, Amyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Panthenol, Silk Amino Acids, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Polysorbate 60, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Myristic Acid, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Triti*** Vulgare (Wheat) Flour Lipids, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Ceramide 3, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Tocopheryl Acetate.

I don't think I'd put all that gunk on my freshly washed hair even if they gave it to me for free. Lately, I tend to go for the natural shampoos and conditioners that don't have a lot of chemical additives.
The days of silicone and hot irons are over for me. My hair is so much more healthier now w/o coating it chemically to make it look that way.

I'd have to agree with the last two posts. Its not like this stuff is going to actually "remember" anything. As far as my test of it went, it was a one-time test. I only tried it to see how straight, shiny, etc. my hair would be with it. As the two ladies above mentioned, unless you use a harsh chemical like a perm/relaxer...you're hair won't "remember" anything. The minute you wash ur hair, its gone. I should've been clearer in my analysis, I just kind of thought it was common sense. I stick by my opinion of it definitely making my hair bouncy though. Nothing I've used has come close in that respect. HTH :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thank you all for your comments!!

GeeCee, I looked at that link and it looks as though a lot of people liked it...interesting..but you and Killah Kitty present good arguments, I'll have to do some more research and thinking =) Thanks all!

Labrat81 you make a good point! What if that coating worked to help curls too lol why don't they market that. I find it weird they make something intended to build up in your hair, I use a lot of products and I dont like when I start to feel it building up, thats why I wash my hair in the first place lol.

This Sleek Memory is confusing me.

And Im sorry I didnt mean to raise an argument, but sometimes marketing can get me angry, just sort of like a pet peeve lol.

And I dont want anyone to be brainwashed like I was, I thought my hair would be better off with some things like organic or bla bla bla, but then someone reminded me hair is dead! It dosnt have a memory, and dosnt necessarily need organic products. Think of it more like skin, it needs heat protectant because it burns, and moisturising and cleaning because it gets dry and dirty.

It doesn't really make your hair "remember" being straight....what it does is coats your hair with a polymer that lasts through a shampoo, and supposedly the polymer has "memory", as in it wants to keep it's shape......so after you wash your hair some of the polymer remains making it easier to straighten your hair then next time. Yes it's designed to leave build up on your hair....that's the point.

Really I have no problem using silicones or polymers in my hair care products. I have thick, corse and very wavy/curly hair. It isn't naturally soft, or shiny...however a little coating of some dimethicone leaves it soft, silky and shiny......I'd try anything that could the extend the life of a blowout and straightening.....

I'm wondering what would happen if I decided to wear it curly after washing it once that polymer was built up....I'm wondering if it would keep the curls defined.....hmmm interesting.

Wow this is interesting. I just couldn't imagine all that buildup though.

Hmmm....

see my hair is basically straight (and kiiiinda frizzy), there are just some major kinks here and there, I wonder if the buildup would be okay for my hair as in, would it make my hair look greasy?

my best bet is that your hair does not remember being straight...

it is most likely that over time you end up getting a build up of product so it just seem slike it is remembering to be straight when in reality there is just product that you put on months ago making it straight
