Hey, girls! Tomorrow, my hairstylist is going to chop my hair off. :icon_eek: Currently, the longest pieces touch my elbows. It's barely layered, so I don't really consider it to be long layers. It probably is, though. After my hair appointment, the longest pieces will touch below the collarbone. I've let my bangs grow out, but I've missed them, immensely, so back to having bangs I go! I'm really tired of the years & years worth of blonde lowlights, that have become more like major highlights, so I've decided to go back to what's become my natural hair color (as an adult). (I was light blonde as a child/teenager.) My natural color is like a very light brown (maybe more of a dishwater blonde ) with natural blonde pieces that accent the base color. It's difficult to describe. I think I may end up getting a few fresh lowlights, but not too many. I can't decide. My husband thinks I should stick to my natural color, for now, and get lowlights next season. What do you think? I know it's hard to give advice w/o pics.

My husband is going to my hair appointment, too. :icon_redf I need him with me for emotional support. My hairstylist is accustom to me bringing someone along, so she won't mind. Does anyone else do this?

I seem to be rambling. Sorry! WISH ME LUCK! If you want to. Don't you find it awkward to ask people to wish you luck? My comfort level just declined. Anyway! I went dark brown about eight years ago (at 20 or 21), and despised it, so (now at 28) I'm nervous, even though, I'm not going anywhere near as dark. :icon_chee Coincidentally, the hairstylist who darkened my hair eight years ago, well, she just so happened to be the wife of my husband's boss, at the time. Yeah, I had no idea. Luckily, there were no repercussions for my husband. I left the salon in tears, though, so I'm not sure how nothing ever happened. It's funny now, though, looking back.

I'm sure you will look great! If your hair is below the collarbone that is still long to me! And I also used to have hair down to my waist -- now it is shoulder-length and I love it, the length is so much more flattering! It's easy to hide behind long hair, but having it a little shorter puts the emphasis on your gorgeous face instead of your hair ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> But your hair will still be plenty long enough to put up and play with different styles!

Plus, dying it to a color close to your natural hair color is always a good choice, because you know that the color will match your skintone! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Good luck!

im glad im not the only one whos ever left a salon in tears... twice! first time cause they cut my hair too short and the second time cause my hair turned out RED instead of blonde highlights as i wanted. im going to get mine cut soon too, but im always scared to go to the hairdresser :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> its really about time now though, so good luck to us both! post pics after if you want! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> i think i will, if it turns out good.

Many a time I have left the salon disappointed... never in tears though pretty close. I have heard that this fairly common however, I guess because us girls have this beautiful vision of what we want our hair to look like... and all too many times the hairdresser does not really share that vision but has one of her/his own! Well unfortunately sometimes we just MUST go to the salon... lol, so anyway good luck to you both, KathrynNicole and cottoncandy!

Trust me you are going to LOVE it and it is going to look PHENOMENAL!! Good luck (no I don't think it is weird to ask people to wish you luck! That is what we are here for!!)

I cut off my hair in feb, after having it REALLY long (past the middle of my back, and sometimes to my butt for all 22 yrs of life). It ended up being ABOVE my shoulders which was a HUGE change!! I have never ever had my hair that short... But it looked great! But now I am missing my long hair, so I am going to grow it again. Every now and then we need a big change, so go for it, and tell us how it went!

Better yet...show PICS!! YAY!!

Trust me on this..from someone that has cut her hair in every style and length..u will like it. Since u will be dying ure hair to your natural you have no worries there...and the length u are cutting i actually really like. You can always go back and add high/low lights anytime if you dont this time. couple eyars ago I cut my hair it was a little logner than shoulder length to reallllyy shortt like boy cut messy. So, trust me when i say you will like it.

:icon_bigg change is good. I was thinking of cutting my hair to shoulder length bob and going to blonde again.. i saw nicole richies hair cut and loved it! but going blonde wont happen until spring :icon_chee I'd love to see pics of your hair! GOOD LUK!

Good luck Katie!! I'm sure it'll be just fine. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> That is a serious cut though! Have you looked into donating it? :icon_wink As far as color... I always see a darker trend for winter.... so if you want to darken up a bit... it'll make your skin look warmer when it's cold out ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> And I would bring someone too with me if I was cutting off a lot - I'd need someone to bring me out of shock !! lol ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

how did it go KathrynNicole?

i had mine cut today too, and i hope yours went better than mine.. i dont know whats wrong with the hairdressers i go to but never have i walked out of there completely satisfied. now, i have to go back to have them fix my hair cause its not how i wanted it. and i even brought a picture. problem is where i live there arent many hairdressers so i always end up going to them. but i think this was the last time.

does anyone in uk have any recommendations for good hairdressers? preferably in or around london? :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

well... i brought in a picture of the hair i wanted and i told her i want rather short layers in the back because i know how my hair behaves, and long layers makes it look puffy. she refused to do it and said that she needs to take off the length to do that, which isnt true because ive seen loads of ppl with longer hair than me and short layers on top. i just want thin layers not chunky ones, to add some movement in my hair, i hate it when its all in one piece. anyway she said she wont do it because it'll "look funny" cause of the colour i have growing out and she said i should rather do it when the colour grows out. i told her i dont care about the colour, i just want the layers. she said if i go home and still feel like i want them, to come back tomorrow and shell do it. so i went home, and noticed that she cut it uneven on the sides. like on one side in the front its shorter than the other by 4 inches. and she also cut the ends straight off like _ which i HATE because it makes the hair look like somone just chopped it off. :icon_neut

she also cut it too short, i have curly hair and when it curls it goes shorter, she said she would cosider this but clearly she didnt do a very good job. its like they cant cut curly hair there, everyone with straight hair comes out looking great but as soon as u want curls, they assume they can just go wild with the scissors and not care how it looks cause it wont show anyway. they did the same thing to my friend who also has curly hair, they cut it totally diffrent on both sides. :icon_frow grrr.

I went back today to have it fixed and they are fully booked until next wednesday. i cant belive this. i just hope she can fix it and not make it worse, i wore my hair up in a bun today cause i just dont wana look at it :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

im feeling so down now because of this, it really affects me when my hair looks bad, because of past bad experiences. and thinking it will grow out doesnt make it any better.

I'm sorry. I know how you feel. Wednesday will be here before you know it. Keep your chin up! You are a pretty girl and i'm sure it's not as bad as you think.

Aww man that stinks!! I have had that happen before... I also have pretty curly hair, and it seems like sooo many stylists do not know how to handle thick curly hair!! I don't know what it is!!

I also like to have my hair long with layers starting short, I agree with you that it makes the hair have more movement and just looks better! I hate it when it is one lenght and cut straight at the bottom, it looks like a 5 year old child cut your hair!

Hopefully they will fix it right, and Lisa was totally correct, hold your chin up! You are gorgeous, and wednesday will get here quickly... 'Til then, you can braid it, bun it, maybe ponytail it, so that no one else will notice...

Heck, I have had stylists cut my hair wet (it's straight when its soaking wet) and they still can't cut it the same length on each side :icon_roll

Thanks, girls! :icon_bigg I loved reading all of your personal stories.

I must've forgotten how you have to actually fix your hair every single day with hair this short. :icon_redf The color is pretty, but I thought it would be darker, like my roots, which were more like groots. Groots = grown out roots. She really did a great job, though. The color looks more natural. I think she gave me a few more highlights than I had in mind, but it's really difficult to 110% satisfy me, hair wise. She came close. I didn't tell her that, though. :icon_razz She insisted on giving me side bangs. They're driving me nuts. I didn't need more hair products residing in my bathroom, but now I regret not buying whatever it was she used to get my bangs to stay! :icon_frow Does anyone have any recommendations? I guess I could call her. The salon is two and a half hours away. We moved four years ago, but our family still lives there, so I go to her from time to time. I may be in town visiting family, this coming Monday, though, so I could pick it up then.

aww. that sucks.

just try to remind yourself that it's just hair and it'll grow and you can always change, cut, color it as much as you want.

thanks for the support girls! ill let you know how it goes..

im glad your experience was positive KathrynNicole! we want pics! :icon_wink

Wow... sorry to hear that CottonCandy... :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Regardless of what your hair is like - they should at least be able to cut a straight line! lol Curly hair should be cut differently than straight hair... especially if the client wears it curly all the time. If they do it mostly straight everyday, then you should consider those needs. That is why it is SO important to have a consultation.... some stylists just don't "get it"... :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> You can have shorter layers on top and still keep the length... you just have to blend in the 'inbetween layers' so that there isn't a drastic difference when you look at the top & the bottom. If the stylist is good with a razor, that works good with curly hair as it makes the ends a little less "blunt". It kind of makes the ends look like they do naturally when they grow out. Not so "straight across". Regardless, a good stylist should always listen to what the client wants. If it is TOTALLY wrong, and you KNOW they'll hate it... they should explain their reasoning... not just say "No, I wont do it". Thats just wrong. There's always something that can be done to keep the customer happy without having to leave them looking like a mess. If they want a certain cut, but say they only have 5 min. a day to do their hair... and the cut they want will look like total crap unless they spend 20min. on it... tell them that, but also give some suggestions on how to maybe wear that cut another (and faster way) or another cut that is similar - but will work for them. Just don't flat out refuse. Hopefully on Wed. it'll be better :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Good luck!

And Katie, do you remember what it looked like that they used?? Or what type of product it was?? Spray? Gel? Cream? etc..? :icon_wink
