Okay

Il try cut a long story short. Moved to Turkey from Uk 6 months ago. I had two VERY bad disasters with hairdressers in my town. I ended up going to Bodrum to a very expensive hairdresser to have it rectified. It was okay but I cant afford those prices now.

I am 'thinking' of colouring my hair myself as I dont get a lot of money now and have to make it ssssttttrrrreeeettccchhhh a long way.

I used to have blonde and dark brown highlights (sigh, I wish those days were back). Now, because of the endless days of sunshine here, my hair has got a LOT lighter. Basically I would sum it up, blonde hair, bl.....dy dark roots :-( yuk.

If I dye my hair on my own from a drugstore colour, should I leave the colour on the roots first to bring it up and then a shorter time on the bleached blonde bit. Im getting nervous just thinking about it. And also I think because the blonde bit is more porous it will soak up the colour a lot quicker.

Any advice would be great

Thanks

Are you trying to color it all one color? If so, I don't see why you couldn't find a color extremely close in color to your roots, and then color your hair according to the directions. If you're matching the color to the roots, then the roots won't get any darker per se, and the rest of the hair should match. If you're really that worried about, then call around local salons to see how much just a color would cost. There's gotta be a place around there that won't charge a horrible amount. If you're talking coloring and adding highlights, then I recommend going to a salon because sometimes that doesn't happen as planned. L'Oreal Expertise would be a decent brand to try to subtle highlights though.

I agree with Aquilah's advice. As well, if you are going to dye your own hair, leave dye on roots for 30 min and on rest of hair/tips for 5-10 minutes max.

This is because dye on top of already dye'd hair causes damage to occure.

Try going to a local community college or a hairdressing college and have them dye your hair. It is way less then going to salon, they usually have instructors who supervise the students, & you will not end up screwing your hair up & have to fork out ALOT of money to go get it fixed. It is worth a try google beauty schools & call them to see if you can make an appointment to have a student do your hair.
