I recently had a bad experience with a facial. The esthetician did an extraction on my forehead which was apparently "a very deep extraction". When I looked in the mirror there were a number of red, puncture wounds on my forehead, almost like tiny stratches because there was probably blood. Anyway, most of them scabbed and healed, but the skin on my forehead seems more delicate and i still have one scar in the middle of my forehead! It looks more like a freckle. I went to the spa and they gave me a couple sample packs of Dermalogica high dose multivitamin cream to apply on it regularly. They're also going to give me some heavier duty exfoliator too. Does anyone have any other suggestion to promote the healing? much appreciated!

i'm sorry u had a bad experience getting a facial. a good esthetician is not suppose to leave your skin injured in any

way, shape, or form. from what i've learned/read abt getting

fascials, the esthetician is suppose do extractions very carefully.

if he/she is having diffuculty on a specific area and can't extract

the blackhead(s), then they are suppose to leave the area alone.

whatever is clogging the pores is too deep below the surface of the

skin, and further pressure and/or manipulation will increase the

chance of damage and infection in that area.

for now, i would put neosporin on the area to help it heal. if

you don't see any improvement within the next week or so, i would advise you to see a dermatologist.

if in the future, you want to get a facial i would advise you to

get referals from good friends and/or family. also, you can ask a

dermatolgist for references as well.

i hope this helped. good luck

Ivette basically said it all! I just want to insist on choosing a GOOD esthetician. Like Ivette said, a good esthetician isn't supposed to leave your skin looking bad or feeling touchy. So be more carefull when choosing your esthetician next time! I'm sorry you experienced a bad facial, because done by the right person, it's really amazing...

Hi,
As an esthetician, I can say that Ivette's advice is on point! It seems that the esty that worked on you did more harm than good.

I can vouch for the Dermalogica products, because I do use them personally. I love them. My favorite is their exfoliator called "Skin Prep Scrub".

i went to an esthetician right after high school when i for some reason started breaking out. She did extractions on my face, and they hurt so bad, that i like dug my fingernails into the table i was lying on. They were so bad. Every single pore she did it on eventually turned into a very large cystic zit, and i had to go on accutane. i would leave her office and look like i had measles. she literally ruined my life at that time. i kept going to her like 3 times, because i wanted to believe so bad that she was going to make me better, but i just got worse every time, and she said that it would get worse before it got better, but now i realize that she gave me a serious skin infection, and she irritated it terribly. She did have a legit business and everything. it was a regular day spa. she is no longer there, however. if i ever saw her again, or if i saw some poor young thing going there with the hopes of getting a clear complexion, i would say, " Run for the Hills! You don't know what you are getting yourself into!" Since then, i have had one facial, it was an aveda sensitive skin facial, which was too gentle. it didn't even leave my face rosy. i wish so bad i could find a good esthetician around her though.

you said it sister! as a esthetician this would never happen in my chair! remember if something doesn't feel right, make them stop doing it immediately!

The only adivce i can give you (aprt from not going back to the person who brusied your forehead) is to exfoliate regularly so that pores are not getting clogged. Also maybe you could try a facial sauna and do the extraction's yourself very gently.Use a tissue around each finger and press the black head out gently.Blackheads are a real pain as,as soon as the oil in the blackhead comes into contact with the air it turns blac,A lot of people think MD is good for blackheads. Those Bore cleansing strips you apply to an area are pretty good at removing balckheads from the pore in one swoop.

thanks everyone for your support, ideas and thoughts...i'm going back to get samples of their heavy duty exfoliator...what a pain.

I am using 0.1% Retin A at nighttime. I was told to use the Neutrogena Healthy skin in the day time. I am 60 and have lines, of course, from sun damange and age, and I was wondering if I need to do anything in between such as exfoilate, moisturize or anything else? My skin is normal to dry. I don't go to the dermatologist, as my insurance does not pay for the Retin A. So, I can't ask the physician. Anyone using the Retin A and if so, what else do you do for your skin to go along with the Retin A???

One last thing.......I don't have any breakouts. My problem is damage from the sun, and age lines!! ;-(

Hoping to hear from someone ???

Thanks a bunch,

JoAnn in TEXAS

Hi JoAnn,

i'm sorry that i can't help you with your question, but i did want to suggest that you re-post your thread with a different title because there may be people who have answers to your question but won't see your question because they're responding to my question instead. i don't mind you sharing my thread by no means

i just hope your question gets as much exposure as possible.

for your suggestion. I will also post my question somewhere else, that maybe someone who is doing the Retin A and using a physican, might could tell me what to do?

Thanks!

I used retin a when I was a teenager and I used dove bar soap to clean my face. I hope this helps.

sorry I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say it's just horrible they left injuries on your face, that's wrong.

sorry you went through that, its a really terriible thing to have happened. I agree with Hollywood, I'd go see a dermatologist, sooner the better.

I went for one facial prolly over 10 years ago. It didn't go very well, I've been too scared to get one done ever since ...
