I have never been able to find the right face lotion. I need help. I have oily skin with dry surface. After I wash my face it feels tight, and when I smile I can see lines all over the place. One of my biggest problems is that after 6 hours the lotion runs into my eyes, it’s painful. So I have to run and wash it. One lotion that doesn’t run to my eyes is Day Wear Plus by Estee Lauder, but most of it stays on the surface and my face shines like the sun, and my face feels extremely tight. Last week, I when to the store and a very nice lady have me a sample of Trish McEvoy Protective Shield Moisturizer, it doesn’t go into my eyes, it’s less shiny and it does go into the skin way more, but I still feel tight, not as much but it’s not doing its job either. I think Trish is the best I have tried but I hope there is something better, I can still see lines all over, the skin feels tight. One thing I should mention is that I cannot afford to pay more than $50 for it.

I have used many one of them was St. Ives and the one I’m using right now is Cetaphil, for 3 days now.

If your skin is oily, a lotion or gel with tea tree oil can help. The Body Shop makes a pretty decent one.

i have really dry, sensitive skin (sometimes it feels tight too) the thing about skincare is that it's all trial and error, which sucks cuz what works for me might not work for you! but right now, here's my skin routine: daytime: i wash my face with origins:checks and balances, then i spritz some shu uemura depsea mist, then origins white tea skin gaurdian(i use that as my primer) then i use origins have a nice day lotion. I like this lotion a lot. very moisturizing and it doesnt irritate my skin. at night, i wash with aveeno daily scrub and use nivea q-10? (i think thats wat its called, it's the one in the navy jar for nighttime use) i've used some more expensive brands for my nighttime regime, but the nivea works better for me. in the past, i've used philosophy skincare and shiseido skincare and they were good too.

You may need a more emolient cleanser if even the Cetaphil is leaving your face feeling dry. I can't use it b/c it isn't moisturizing enough for me. You oculd try a thinker lotion cleanser or a creamy cleanser. Just use warm (not hot) water and a washcloth to remove the cleanser from your face. Or you can continue with the Cetaphil (I know most ppl love it) and try adding a toner formulated for drier skin, like the Nivea moisturizing toner (it's pink), then moisturize while your skin is still damp. For moisturizer, maybe one of Neutrogena's sunscreens? I think a lot of women on here like Aveeno, too. I'm not much help there, though, b/c I have dry skin. Keep in mind that if you dry out your skin with your cleanser/toner, it'll overproduce oils to try and balance itself out.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

That’s a lot Ikana82, but glad it works for you.

Maybe maybe maybe I need something in between, perhaps I need a toner or a serum or something. I like the cleanser and the lotion. With what I’m using right now, it doesn’t run to my eyes which is extremely important and I’m way less shiny, I just need something for the tightness.

I bought the Nivea moisturizer toner, I do notice a difference but I will try it for a week and see what happens.

i used to use cetaphil and that stuff drys skin out unless your very very oily... i had dry skin and got cetaphil, ughhh it was horrible... id definately say switch your cleanser..... i have very dry skin , so i know all about the tightness... i just bought olay complete plus day lotion (its for extra dry skin) and it doesnt go into my eyes. i have only been using it for about 3 days but i already can tell the difference in texture, appearence, and SOFTNESS of my face. so definately look into it! estee lauder idealist is really really nice as well.

also try mixing 1 tbsp of milk and 1 tbsp honey. mix it well and leave it on for 5- 10 mins .... i do this about 2x a week .

Definitely is trial and error. I like Avon Purifying Tea Tree & Grapefruit Facial Cream. I believe it's been DCed, but you can still find it on eBay for like $2.99.

Ok, I’ll change the cleanser and the lotion. When I went to buy the toner the Olay section caught my eye. Which cleanser do you use and why? Thank you for the recipe.

Thank you Aquilah. I have notice that creams make my skin feel oily and after several hours it runs to my eyes. I would like to try things easy to find.

Thank you Delphine. Sorry but I don’t understand, what do you mean with mattifying moisturizer?

Thanks, his name is Andy.

well i ran out of my olay cleanser. but just a few days ago i was using olay moisturizing cleansing cloths, not only because it doesnt leave me feeling tight, but it takes off makeup really well too. plus i didnt have a reaction. i think this weekend i am going to try some of the other cleansing cloths, i think one is the total effects and regenerist cleansing cloths, my mother uses one of those and she LOVES LOVES them, so you can see why i wanna get some! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i know olay has 1 or 2 cleansers that have toner in it , but i havent tried those, toner seems to make my dryness worse, but you could give one of those a shot!

this is my routine: jut if your curious! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have a similar problem, and I've found that deep moisturizing at night, when it doesn't matter so much if I'm oily, helps keep my skin moisturized during the day and less oily (no more over-compensating in the oil production department). I like the Cetaphil moisturizer for this purpose. It moisturizes well, but doesn't feel thick or greasy.

Good luck!

Thank you Liz, I was thinking of getting one, just to try. I just hope it doesn’t run to my eyes. I have that problem, stuff running to my eyes.

i have really sensitive skin, and i've been using oil of olay since forever..it's not too complicated and greasy like other lotions ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thank you so much Bookiebear, and welcome to MakeUpTalk. Yes, I’ll be using all the Oil of Olay line for a while and see if it’s a winner. :eclipsee: Like Aquilah said, “Definitely is trial and error.†Wish me luck.

I use Cegal By the Sea, along with Vaseline. I use the Cegal all over my face, but my cheeks are usually extra dry in the winter, so I use Vaseline over them, and that helps tons! Just a little bit and pat - it works wonders!
