This is for cold process soap. the kind our great grandparents made before the invention of sodium laurel sulfates around WW I. It's time consuming and way harder than melt and pour soap but very rewarding!
I have made this over 20 times. I ONLY use my own home made soap these days and have sold it at flea markets too.
You need safely goggles, gloves, two large pots wooden mixing spoons, a cardboard box to use as a mold, two candy or meat thermometers. Clothes you don't care about and a big surface area to work with.
This is a combo that works everytime.
water
6 3/4 oz lye
18 oz olive oil
18 oz palm oil
12 oz coconut oil
18 oz water
I scent it with 1 oz of essential oils per pound of soap. My fave is equal amounts of Ylang Ylang, lemon grass, and clove. Some scents won't stay in soap the above will. Peppermint is also good. I am going to post a link to instructions to a randome site just cause it will take forever to write them here.At the tracing point of the soap you can ad things like clay for oily skin, or cocoabutter, shea butter or goat milk for a richer soap.
I found these instructions on line just by doing a search. But there are tons and if anyones interested I can post my own sometime too.
UPDATE:
Tried to post a link just now but couldn't. I'll come back later when I have more time and write instructions
