Ok, this could be in the wrong section but it seemed to fit best here since it isn't a tutorial, just a few tips I have for self tanners on the boards
First of all, I have been self tanning for 5+ years... in the first year, I tried a variety of products before I hit Loreal... nothing has ever worked better for me and that is what I continue to use. I will be writing these tips with that tanner in mind... it's gel based, kind of. Here's a picture :
Tip 1 : USE GLOVES! I use latex free gloves because latex gloves tend to get a little ouchy feeling when rubbing your skin to make sure it is all rubbed in. And makes you red... ew.
Tip 2 : EXFOLIATE! An obvious one. When you are exfoliating, pay extra attention to problem areas like knees, ankles, neck, elbows, etc. Everybody's body is different and self tanner affects all of us differently. Also, I use soft soap coconut body scrub. It works wonders and smells yummy!
Tip 3 : Start with your legs. They dry fast and you can get them out of the way in a jiffy. My upper body tends to dry slower so I do it last that way I'm not rubbing and making weird movements while it is drying. Don't want to mess it up!
Tip 4 : Go AROUND your belly button, not OVER. Or else your gonna look like you have an orange crater on your body.
Tip 5 : I'm sure your gonna have to find your own way to do this but this is how I do my back : I start at the top and reach my arms over my shoulders and get all that first. Then I move to the bottom and middle of my back, and I use the back of my hands to reach further and rub it in. It works for me and I very rarely have ended up with splotchyness... another great thing about Loreal!
Tip 6 : If you tan your hands and feet : Use a cotton ball or cosmetic sponge. When tanning your feet, don't go between your toes. It will look strange, and use sparingly around your ankles. On your hands, make sure you get between your fingers but not all the way up by your nails. My tanner blends in and makes my hands look very nice and not strange and dirty when I use this tip.
Tip 7 : Don't get dressed right after you "think" you are done drying. I usually don't wear clothes til at least an hour after. This has held true with all products I have used, if I get dressed any sooner it rubs off on my clothes. So make sure you have time to dry.
Tip 8 : Use a blow dryer on the cool setting if you have to dry quicker. It works nicely.
Tip 9 : Avoid showering/swimming for at least 24 hours after you have tanned. That way it has time to set in. This is a reason why you want to tan RIGHT when you are done showering and have nice, soft, exfoliated skin
Tip 10 : Use a lotion that has a tanner in it. Like Jergens or Olay or Loreal has this one day tanner stuff now. I have personally always used Jergens Natural Glow but I want to try the Loreal stuff. You don't have to do this every day. But this helps keep your tan dark and great looking until the next time you are ready to apply again.
Tip 11 : If once your tan has set in and you notice some blotchyness or maybe a spot that didn't get entirely rubbed in, you can use makeup remover to correct this. I use almay oil free makeup remover pads, I've never tried anything else and this has always helped correct my mess ups without removing too much.
ENNNNJOY!!!! Haha, I just got done tanning which gave me this idea.
Hope it helps you ladies that need a little advice with this
