Maybe I'm just a lip product addict, but these are the things I use to transform all my lip colors.
Soothing products
These help with chapped lips.
Find- balm, stick, and gloss with SPF coverage.
When your lips are chapped on the go, a balm can be put on top of your existing color. Chapstick form can be used as a base for color, to prevent flaking. Soothing gloss can be added for shine and a finishing touch.
EDIT Also, consider one soothing lip balm with emmollients and one without. With for removing dead skin, without emmollients to put over lip stains without harming them.
Flavored products
These are great for a date, or when you want a pick-me-up.
Find- Stick/balm and gloss
For when you want to taste yummy. Gloss adds shine AND flavor to existing color, stick allows you to have smooth, tasty and bare lips.
Tinted products
Good for when you're rushing out and can't paint on a high maintenance lip color.
Find- chapstick and gloss
I have a tinted chapstick and two glosses (one is a stick gloss that I toss in my purse for low maintenance looks. One of my soothing glosses doubles as a tinted gloss.
Basically that is 6-7 products that can be used with existing lip colors to make them into something new. With these products I manage to only carry one or two tubes of lip product with me in a small purse. Hope this helps.
ANOTHER EDIT- I don't see how water as an ingredient in lip products will help it moisturize. When you wash your hands, it leaves them anything but moisturized.
