a few years ago, my mom was at that market selling all sorts of products, we were on vacation in the south of France, home of olive oil. she bought some Alep soap which is apparently good for eczema (yes it is, btw) and my bro suffers regularly from it, might as well try everything.
two weeks ago i found another one in the cupboard of the bathroom and i was out of face cleanser. i tried it and oh my, it works ! it's gentle (my skin is sensitive and usually a good juge of a product's harshness) and it really washes your face. i rubbed it a bit on my nose and it also clears my pores from blackheads like few of my (harsh) face cleansers did. of course, you still need to exfoliate your skin and do masks, but it's a great cleanser for my combo skin.
second, it's big (mine must weight about 200-300g), which means it lasts long and only for smthg like 5€ (6.7US$).
its name comes from where it's originally made : Alep, Syria.
what is great about this soap is that it's only made of olive oil and laurel (20%), which is why it's great for problem skins, you severely minimize the risks of allergy.
here's a pic of what it looks like : brown on the outside, olive green inside. mine has a big string so i can hang it under the shower. i simply use it directly on my face (you can also use a washcloth) and rinse thoroughly.
other than cleansing, it has soothing and purifying properties. and the smell of olive oil
in order to be complete, this soap can also be used as a shampoo and laundry soap.
there's also another version containing 40% of laurel, which is apparently more specific for acne, eczema, psoriasis... i haven't tried it, but i'll probably buy this one when i've finished mine.
i also wanted to add it greatly improved my acne on my shoulders and back. between the pimples and acne scars, they were red and itchy. now my skin is a lot less red, with only a few small pimples, and almost no red scar.
sometimes, the natural way is the best. i'm glad this works for me, so i thought i'd share. if you're sick of trying every product on the market and spend a fortune each time, give it a try.
