Multi coloring hair help? Tips/tricks? :(

This is what I want. And I plan on buying clip in extensions. But do you think it is possible for me to dye my existing hair somewhat like how that picture is? I need some tips, because I can't afford to go to the salon. I already got the hard part done, my hair is ALL light blond.

You want a two tone or paneling? Looks like paneling, but you can't see any more of the hair..

The extensions may not take to dye the same as your hair, so boxed dye may not be a good idea. I do suggest going to a professional, or purchase your extensions in the color you are looking for and only use these for your under-panel. Although, it will not look the same as this photo as it looks like your hair is pretty short.
