I wasn't sure how to title this post... Anyways, I've dealt with acne and clogged pores for years, and the dermatologist I used to see in high school always said it was caused by my excessively oily skin. For the last several months my skin has still been very oily like it always has, but my acne has really been clearing up which is very exciting! However, I've noticed that now I break out a lot during my period, while I have almost no acne for the rest of the month. (I guess I never noticed this before because I used to have acne all month, lol!) I was just wondering if there was something different you can do to treat this monthy acne versus regular acne, or should I just continue my normal skin care routine? Thanks!

I would think that you could continue with your regular skin care. I think that the reason why you are breaking out is because of hormonal changes during that time of the month.

I'm sure it's caused by hormones, I was just curious if there was something I could do to lessen the effect

Hi Jennifer, I have been having the same problem, and it is cystic during the monthly time so it takes a couple weeks to clear that up, then I'm good for a week -2weeks, and bam it's back with my monthly. I haven't found anything yet.

sorry

Jennifer

gah, i have the same problem. My skin is perfect other than 2-3 pimples that pop up a week before my period, and then take weeks to clear out, and then it's time for them to pop up again...I always get them in the same place, my right lower part of the chin.

I haven't found anything to prevent the breakout, so i just use foundation to cover it up.

My acne is somewhat like that too. My derm perscribed some oral Anti-Biotics that are meant to be taken twice a day, everyday.. but, he said that alot of people take them just a week before their cycle and it helps control those monthly breakouts..and taking them that way has been helping me.

Hey! I honestly have no clue, I have the exact same problem. I ALWAYS break out before my period and usually on my forehead and it's usually small little pimples. All I can tell you that you should spot treat it with Tea Tree Oil.

I´m the same way. I had mild-medium acne in my teens, had BC pills presribed at age 18 and my skin got better from then on. now I don´t break out during the month, but before and during my period I do...and it´s mostly cystic pimples which I never really had during my teenage years!!!! and yes they take long to heal and almost always leave marks

it´s so annoying but I don´t really thinkt here is much we can do. I mean the BC should somewhat regulate my hormone levels so my skin has gotten much better and I don´t ever wanna get of my BC. I am just hoping as I get older my skin will never break out again...yeah right Andrea, dream on

Tell me about it. My skin has been doing so well, clear as can be! Then bam, period comes and 6, yes 6 pimples appear! Periods are annoying enough, and having a bad breakout really adds to it. I'm on BC too and it's supposed to help regulate the horomones but it doesn't help me much during that time either.

Does anyone know if vitamens have an effect on acne? I stopped taking any multi-vitamens like have been doing for months. I heard that they help..not sure though.

lol, maybe there's not a whole lot you can do then! Lately I've been getting about 4-5 pimples at that time of the month, but they are usually very big! Bigger than the ones that occasionally appear during the rest of the month..... So yeah, I just make sure I always have a good concealor around! lol

I have the same problem...I hardly get any pimple during the rest of the month, but I get a few during that time of the month that takes a couple weeks to disappear. Sometimes I get 2-3 huge ones, sometimes i get lots of tiny bumps...haven't really found a way to get rid of them except my usual spot treatment. I really wish I could do something about it though...I seem to have a lot of social meetings right after i get these horrible pimples!

My mom had acne through her 40's, does that make you feel better?
