Hello all.

I have oily/acneic/dehydrated skin. I have heard mixed things about moisturizer. Some professionals recommend using it. Others say you don't need it unless you are extremely dry. I think I need it because my skin looks more glowing when I use it.

Question #1- Can someone recommend a FABULOUS moistuizer that: keeps oil at bay, does not break out my skin, hydrates it and has minimal ingredients?

Question #2- Has anyone used a makeup primer? Is there one you could recommend that will not break out my skin?

Thanks for your help.

You'd want to find a moisturizer that is FOR OILY SKIN ..non-comedegenic, oil free. I know Arbonne has a great line but not sure if where you live or if you are even interested. You can check out their products and locate a consultant by going to here.

Makeup Primers ..there are many out there. I like Velvet Skin by DHC ..it feels really good also ..like a powdery feel to it. I think it is safe for all skin types too.

Hope this helps some...I'm sure others will chime in.

Thank you for your response. What is DHC? Where would I purchase that? I will check out the website for Arbonne. I just want basic skin care that doesn't break me out.
I live in South Jersey (near Philly). I guess I could find a consultant on the website.

Welcome to MUT! I agree w/Kim that that even "oily" skin needs a moisturizer. Oil is different from moisture. Often times someone with oily skin actually over cleanses and this causes the skin to produce more oil to over compensate for the moisture.

As far as a moisturizer, you should definitely be looking for an "oil free, non-comedogenic" moisturizer. Because each person's skin reacts to different things, this will more than likely be a trial and error situation. I would recommend that you get samples and try them out to see how you react to and/or if you like them. Try one at a time for a week.

You should also make sure you are drinking enough water to keep yourself hydrated from inside out.

I personally would ask a dermatologist if you have very oily or acne-prone skin.... I have very oily skin, and my dermatologist only had me use a moisturizer when I was using a medication that was drying out my skin too much. Once we switched medications and found something that helped dry up the oil and acne without over-drying my skin, he said not to use moisturizer (except for the built-in moisturizing ingredients in my cleansers).

He recommended Cetaphil moisturizing cream since it is noncomedogenic. You should be able to find it at any drugstore (in the US anyway). I still keep it around for the rare patch of dry skin I get, and it always clears it right up without clogging my pores!

THanks for the information. My skin feels better when I wear a moisturizer (most) of the time. THere are times when I don't think I need it. But that is not often.
Do you think I should use the moisturizer morning and night?

THanks again,

I would say it depends on how dehydrated your skin feels. I have combo/oily t-zone skin and I moisturize both day and night. During the warmer months, I just go a bit lighter.

At one point of time, I had oily(with acne) but dehydrated skin. I found that using creams or anything too heavy on the skin only makes things worse. The best would be something light, like Clinique's Thirsty Surge Relief(I haven tried this yet but wat I'm trying to say is maybe u should try something with a similar texture to wat this product has- its something like gel yet more fluid. I can't really describe the exact texture so I'm citing to u this product so u can get a better idea of the exact kind of textue I'm talking about

'bout primers, I'm not much help as I haven had much experience wif them(had tried only 1 & didn't like it too much).

Hello MaryEllen

,

I have had as well oily / acne skin before. I have a very good experience with Biogime skin care products. They have a fabulous product which I recommend to everyone: 5 step system. It contains 5 different products, a very good moisturizer among them, which main task is to normalize skin. Check out this site, there you can read a bit more about that.

And once more: don't give up using moisturizer!! If your skin doesn't get it, it will get even more oily.

Yes I agree everyone should use a mousturizer. I have combination skin of between normal-oily , stays fine in winter and gets more to the oily end in summertime. I use estee Lauder Idealist Refinisher it works perfectly. Its for all skin types... it keeps the oil under control. It says though apply your mousturizer after the idealist, i know some people who only use the idealist (as their mousturizer).. works great.
