Saw this on Clark Howard's show on CNN... My razors last like a week or two... So I bought a new pack of blades last night and today started the test.... just drying it off after every use..... Anyone else doing this? How long do your razors typically last? Make your disposable razor last for six months or longer Gillette and Schick are taking their overpriced shavers and blades to new heights with two competing products: The Fusion ProGlide and the Schick Hydro. The price of a single blade, you ask? $4!! Over the course of a year, you could spend big money on blades at that price. Or you could do what Clark does. He typically uses a 17-cent razor for six months or longer. How you ask? By drying it after each use. As a listener pointed out to Clark, blades corrode because of moisture, not because of use. These days, Clark is using a three-blade disposable he received as a sample. But he'll go back to his twin-blade disposables in several months. The consumer champ has a lifetime supply of these 17-cent Shcick babies purchased on clearance at the regional warehouse club BJs! No matter what kind of blade you use, you can get more life out of it by drying it. Clark simply blots his dr n a towel after each use" http://www.clarkhoward.com/news/clark-howard/shopping-retail/make-your-disposable-razor-last-for-six-months-or/nFFG/

I'd believe it.  I don't shave often because the hair I grow is sparse and fine, but I've had razors with only 1-2 uses get all rusty after sitting in the shower for a month or two not being used.  I KNOW that my fine hair isn't destroying the razors after a handful of uses.  I'll try to remember to take the razor out of the shower so it won't get damp all the time, but usually I forget.  I've never thought about actually blotting them dry after a use though. That might help even more than just taking it out of the bathroom and letting it air dry each time.

I don't buy razors often because in between use I clean them then disinfect with alcohol then put the cover back onto it. The alcohol not only disinfects the razor but also helps dry the water out. If I don't do it my razors will begin to rust within a week or two.

I always try to dry mine for the same reason. I never thought of disinfecting them before though, good tips here.

Mine get dull before they get rusty. Apparently I have way too much extra to shave! Lol.

This is really helpful!  I started drying mine and taking it out of the shower and now my razors last much longer!

Alcohol disinfecting is actually a really smart idea, especially since it speeds with the drying process.  It only makes sense, you are likely making tiny tears and cuts (or sometimes bigger cuts) next to pores, so you'd want it disinfected.  Thanks zadi for the tip

I always store my razors with those little moisture absorbing packets that come in medication or vitamin bottles. The ones that say 'do not ingest'. They're full of silica beads that absorb ALL moisture. Sometimes you can even find them in shoe boxes when shopping for new shoes. They absorb all the moisture that gets in between the blades, even the stuff you can't see. My razors last a ridiculously long amount of time. Sometimes 8 months. They never rust, never feel dull, never cut my legs. It really does work. Even if you dry the blades with a towel or whatever there is still water on between the blades that you can't see. These little packets are indespensible and work for a multitude of applications. I even throw them in my bags of bulk dry mineral ingredients, like silica, calcium carbonate, my mineral foundation which I buy in bulk, etc.

I have never had an issue with razors rusting, they just become dull and don't shave the hair as well, or "catch" on my skin.

There is no way I would get months of use out of a razor, I like fresh new razors!

Mine definitely rust along the sides, where they attach to the plastic. I buy disposables. I will try the blotting on towel and leave my razor outside of the shower so I can grab it when needed. Maybe that will help with the rusting and dulling for me too.
