I stopped by with my mother at Sephora to buy a gift for her friend, and we had an interesting conversation with an Estee Lauder rep. She suggested us both products we could use and i'm always looking for another moisturizer (actually one moisturizer that would do what the two i currently use do). She gave us samples, which are so hard to get i thought they were worth taking a look at.

I'm specifically interested in the Daywear moisturizer, i tried it this morning and i like the texture, the scent is ok.

I am also interested in the Idealist serum to even skintone (the illuminator).

I was suggested the Advanced night repair but i just read the ingredient list and as 4th ingredient it contains a kola extract, to which i am allergic so i just saved 60€, LOL !

I used to use Estee Lauder Idealist, Daywear as well as Night repair and I liked them all. I found that I needed something stronger than Daywear as far as anti-aging goes so I stopped using it. I used Idealist and Night repair for a long time but stopped using both because of the cost and searching for more natural products. I found that Korres makeup primer and smashbox makeup primers are similar to Idealist. A friend raved about Clinique Even Tone moisturizer so I want to try that next.

Me too - I've used EL in the past but it got to be expesive so I had to find alternate products. Overall they worked great for me, but I couldnt spend the $$.

Would I go back now?  Nah. I still think its too pricey for everyday use.

Yeah, that's what i fear. I like the daywear moisturizer but although i could, i don't see the point of using a moisturizer with sun protection at night. So i'm back with my two moisturizers which is what i wanted to get rid of.

To be honest i'm not sure i want to buy it, for one Estee Lauder doesn't give out much information apart from the commercial ads, i cannot find the ingredients list of that moisturizer. Considering its price, i want to know it's justified by something in the formula.

I also checked the serum (Advanced Night Repair). It's sure stable if you count the preservatives and the emulsifiers, co emulsifiers and jelly agents. I checked them one by one and you also have a good amount of surfactants in the ingredients (did i mention it also has a UV filter?). There is also an interesting review i found by "futurederm", the new formula has included tripeptide-32 which supposedly turns on the clock gene named PER-1, so that it activates the keratinocyte genes at times it's not normally on, or at a lower level. Good idea in theory. Then the lactobacillus ferment, which contains DNA repair enzymes, comes into action. With that, you understand how they can market it renews your skincells.

But the studies have shown it works when the product is packed in liposomes, which isn't the case here, and that's assuming that tripeptide-32 can truly penetrate through the cell to the nuclear level. The only way to know for sure is to read the inhouse study.

I remain extremely doubtful about the effects of kola in skincare, all i could find that would justify its use in skincare is that it stimulates the nervous system. It doesn't take a genius to discover that.

Given that, i think i will come back to my original idea of a natural combination of antioxidants and peptides.

did you check beautypedia.com?

Not yet, but thanks for suggesting it ! My mom bought a travel sized kit, which has this moisturizer. She gave me the box with the list of ingredients when i told her i wanted to know what's inside. I'm not saying it's not good, and i really like this moisturizer, but i like more natural ingredients, and i've found good moisturizers for less, so i think i'm going to concentrate on other brands.
