Hello all!  I'm new to these forums and you all seem very helpful and knowledgeable!

My question is...

I just received a bunch of new skincare products.  I'm wondering in which order I should apply them to my face.

I have a skin brightener, a vitamin C serum, a vitamin C daytime Moisturizer, a vitamin C night time moisturizer, and a vitamin C eye cream.

I'm also wondering if the layering of the products would differ for night time?  Or if I should exclude some of the products for night time?

Also, should I invest in a toner???

Thanks guys!

Hi Jompyshy and welcome to MakeupTalk!

I usually cleanse and moisterize before I put anything else of my face.  I'm not sure about skin brightener as I'm not familiar with the product.  I do have a daytime moisterizer that I use on mornings before I put on my makeup and a night time one as well that I accompany with my eye cream at night.  I am new to eye cream as well so I'm still testing it out and how best to use it.  What is the Vitamin C serum for though?  What type of serum is it?  Eyes? Wrinkles? Redness? etc.

Hi!!!

The Vitamin C serum is for general brightening of the skin and to help with sun damage and fine lines.  It helps get rid of those nasty free radicals.

Yes, i agree. So here's how i would do it :

-wash my face.

-apply serum/brightener

-apply moisturizer.

For nighttime since you have two different moisturizers use the one labelled for night. You can apply the serum as well, Dr Schultz from Dermtv said it's best to apply antioxidants in the morning because they participate in the sun protection of your face.

If you use a susncreen (and you should !), i would apply it between the serum and the moisturizer.

For the eyecream it's personal prefrence, mine is thick so i prefer to apply it at night, but you can apply it in the morning.

The toner isn't essential. It's supposed to bring back the normal pH of your skin after you washed it. It's a good tool to use if your skin is on the oily side as it can contain oil control properties. I also like to use a toner for my dehydrated skin, before i apply any moisturising product, it adds some moisture. Just make sure it doesn't contain alcohol which is too harsh for your skin. I use floral waters, lavender is good for oil control, or chamomile for general use. That's the first product i apply after i washed my face.

Layering is always okay to do, especially at night. I will wash my face, spray a toner, add eye cream, then a night syrum (or any) and finally top it off with a thin layer of night creme to seal it in. IF you like natural products, I have a review of some AMAZING 100% vegan products on my blog. You can find it at http://naturalbeautymark.blogspot.com/

When layering your products you should always apply the most liquid products first, so that would be your serums (start with the thinnest one first) then apply your lotions and/or moisturizer. So for your daytime routine I would apply the vitamin C serum first and then the skin brightener which I'm guessing is a lotion and then your daytime moisturizer and eye cream. At night, I would apply the night time moisturizer but I'm not sure why that would be a vitamin C also. And the eye cream can be applied at night again as well. Toners are great to balance the PH level of the skin and are great for oily skin too. I do think they are good but not the most important product to use.
