I assume that was an awkward experience. Did the sales associate offer you any samples?

Yes, I've heard of it. I haven't tried any of the products, yet, though. I was looking into trying one of the eye creams, but I've decided to ask my new dermatologist before making any new skincare purchases. I have, however, read many raves about the foundation.

ya it was really awkward. she rang everything up then tried to cover the price with her finger when i was about to sign the receipt. i pulled it down and im like ahh!!! then i told her i cant afford that and she was still being very pushy trying to get me to buy it (she obviously wanted the commission). but aside from that experience...she did give me some samples and it did make my skin feel really nice..but its hard to tell from only using it a few times. i was curious if anyone else has been using it for awhile. cuz i will be willing to spend a lot on skincare since its really important....just not from a pushy saleslady.

That's crazy!

Yeah, it's a big deal here in Sweden, apparently, they do a lot of research on their products, thus making it expensive. But other brands such as Shisedo is just as good...

I think they are great products but way overpriced. You said you are 20 and at your age you really don't need this kind of expensive skincare. You can find many great products suitable for your age at a much more reasonable price. The most important is a great sunscreen. I wish I knew it at your age.

Dang! What's in there?? Gold??...I love Philosophy & Origins..and I think they are way over priced...

i got a sample, it was ok ill just stick to my clinique gel moisturizer for 23 dallors. i like better

You should report that saleswoman to a manager. What she did is shady & probably against store policy. Also, in the future make sure you ask prices when they're telling you about the products, before you commit to anything, and go with a budget in mind so that you'll be less tempted to buy lots at once. A good saleswoman will work with you and respect your budget, IMO (and I used to work a skincare counter).

yea i know its my own fault for not asking for the prices...but i didnt think it could possibly be more than like $500-600 which is what i was willing to spend. o well at least i know better now!

Paula Begouin gives really bad reviews for La Prairie products in her book "Don't Go to the Cosmetic Counter Without Me" and she does tests on all the products she reviews. I don't think she says they are "bad" exactly, but she says that they are gimmicky and not worth the money at all! I think when I was your age I was thinking of buying La Mer products, which are the same sort of idea - super expensive skincare with exotic ingrediants.

I second to invest in a good moisturizer with spf or sunscreen at your age. A prescription-strength retinoid and a high spf sunscreen would be your best preventative measure at your age.

I am a skincare nut, and I've learned to stop trying the fancy creams with the fancy fragrances and to focus on active ingredients.

I was going to cite Paula too, cause I like how she summarizes it on her site:

Quote:
La PrairieIf you can choke past the prices there are some excellent moisturizers in this line brimming with noteworthy antioxidants, water-binding agents, and anti-irritants, and there are some well-formulated sunscreens with UVA-protecting ingredients?although selling sunscreens at $125 an ounce should be illegal. Given that a generous application is the cornerstone for getting correct sunscreen coverage, this price almost guarantees that you will not be using enough to get the essential protection from sun damage that the skin really needs and that the label indicates.

in other words, good comsetics, but not worth the price. you can find same quality for less $$$

Wow! $1200 for skin care products?! Must be made of gold! Sheesh! It wasn't even half that for Chanel!

Eep, that's too pricey. There's no way I could spend 1200 dollars only for that!

I have a friend who told me thier makeup removers is the best; gets everything off in one shot!

Although it is very expensive if I was wealthy I would totally buy thier products...
