I got this in email...Please someone tell me it's not true..

Check the ingredients listed on your shampoo bottle, and see if they have this substance by the name of *Sodium Laureth Sulfate*, or simply SLS. This substance is found in most shampoos, and the manufactures use it because it produces a lot of foam and it is cheap. But the fact is that SLS is used to scrub garage floors, and it is very strong.

It is also proven that it can cause cancer in the long run, and this is

no joke. Shampoo brand such as Vo5*, Palmolive, Paul Mitchell, the new Hemp shampoo, Pantene Pro-V * etc.. contains this substance.

So I called one company, and I told them their product contains a

substance that will cause people to have cancer. They said "Yeah, we knew about it but there is nothing we can do about it because we need that substance to produce foam. By the way *Colgate toothpaste also contains the same substance to produce the "bubbles".

*

They said they are going to send me some information. Research has shown that in the 1980s, the chance of getting cancer is 1 out of 8000 and now, in the 1990s, the chances of getting cancer is 1 out of 3, which is very serious. So I hope that you will take this seriously and pass this on to all the people you know, and hopefully, we can stop "giving"ourselves the cancer virus.

"CLINICPLUS" Shampoo also contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate(SLS)

substance in it. Plzzzzz....

*Try to avoid that.*

Eeek! That's scary. I have no idea if it's true or not, I hope it's not. I think it's time to do some research..lol.

Ok, I went on Wikipedia and it says that it's believed to cause cancer, but that it hasn't been proven. It also says that it can cause mouth ulcers..

Paula Beogon ( I can never spell her last name ) has looked into this and the only bad thing she came up with is that either sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate ( I can never remember which one ) or maybe both of them could be drying for hair or skin. I think its the lauryl one....either way, they aren't dangerous, at least no more than the other gazillion chemicals we are exposed to everyday in our enviroment. There are other options, face washes and shampoos, that don't use the stuff, but you won't get the lather- though the lather doesn't mean you are "cleaner".

SLS is used in detergents, yes to create lather or such or as a cheap filler. It can be quite harsh or stripping, ever wonder why your clothes fade when you wash them? It's the SLS in the detergent...some detergents have more than others, therefore some detergents will strip your color faster.

Same goes with facial cleansers, hair products, body washes, toothpastes and so on. SLS is a detergent and can be quite harsh. That being said, if you have sensitive skin or concerns....just look for products that are more natural. I'm not saying it's dangerous, just that SLS is a strong detergent and cheap filler that is used and will result in 'stripping'....whether it be color from clothing or it could even be stripping on your skin as well.....although some people are able to handle it just fine. People with more sensitive skin, it just may be a bit too much for us.

Some cleansers or products do not use this (Aloette for one, does not have SLS in any of their products and there are many other natural products out there as well).

omg. i hope it's not true, but then again it seems like even breathing the air these days causes cancer. everytime i turn around they're saying new studies have that so and so causes cancer. i mean come on how are we suppose to live if everything causes cancer. so scary.

it's sodium lauryl sulfate that's aggressive, laureth is quite gentle (according to her ingredients dictionary)

edit: I'm not sure, but I think herbal essences shampoos have sodium lauryl sulfate
