Yes - eau de toilette is lighter - contains less oils / more alcohol (fragrance will fade throughout the day)

eau de parfum - concentrated formulation

I think it depends on the perfume. Some perfumers have slightly different notes for their EDT and EDP versions.

The EDT is supposed to last shorter, but with some perfumers like Dior, the EDT is still quite strong.

I learned this at Walgreens!!!

From Wikipedia

* Perfume extract: 20%-40% aromatic compounds

* Eau de parfum: 10-30% aromatic compounds

* Eau de toilette: 5-20% aromatic compounds

* Eau de cologne: 2-3% aromatic compounds

edt's have better sillage ie. they 'waft' better but don't last as long. EDP's/parfums, last much longer, have less sillage, are softer and stay much closer to the skin, and often are better crafted ie. a few notes are often substituted for higher quality products so that the scent is more rounded/full bodied. Basenotes (the fixative which adheres the top and mid notes to the skin) are the most often substituted.

You may find you don't like the parfum/edp as much as the edt and vice versa, use whatever you find smells the nicest.

Cool!

I find it so frustrating when the notes and therefore the fragrance differs between EDT and EDP of the same fragrance so much that when I love the EDT on me but want it to last longer, the EDP doesn't work at all on my skin.

I liked the EDP but it was kinda strong and the EDT smelled nothing like the EDP on my skin. I finally just gave up on it!

EDP are more concentrated, thus making it more expensive for a smaller amount, and making it's staying power longer...

This is good to know actually. Thanks for posting this!

Ditto on what they said, my French teacher explained it to me once; I usually go for the EDP because it's lasts longer, but then I've never really smelt both versions of the same fragrance except the Chanel No.5 and it smells slightly different.
