About a month or so ago I started wearing mineral makeup, which is supposed to be good for your skin..and I went back to using my natural cleansers. I've been applying coconut oil and vitamin e oil every night. Nothing bad has gone on my skin yet it's become SO dry and looks flakey and just eww like alligator skin when I wear the makeup. It doesnt feel as smooth as it used to, thats for sure. I thought that it was just the makeup but when I wake up in the morning after applying coconut oil and some vitamin e, my skin doesnt feel hydrated and smooth. It feels dry. I don't know if its just the makeup or the oils but im so upset about it. I want my skin to stop being so dry. uggh. ive never had a dry skin problem on my face before. Oh and today I got so many blemishes, I thought MMU and coconut oil were supposed to clear them up not create more!!

do you exfoliate? exfoliating helps to remove the flakes and will also help your skin to absorb the oil more..

sorry i cant be much help :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Maybe you're not drinking enough water, coconut oil wont make your skin dry, i dont know anything about MMu, cause i dont use it, but i know coconut oil wont do that to your skin :kopfkratz:

hmmm.. what type of moisturizer do you use? and do you apply it morning and night?

I use vaseline on the dry spots on my face, just a light coating... I have the same problem with MMU, makes my skin too dry.

I hope it clears up hun!

i just really think its the makeup but im ticked the coconut oil didnt clear up my blemishes they got worse. i use burts bees beeswax moisturizer its worked well up until now

I have the same problem. I posted under this same topic, skin care but no replies yet. Dry, flaky skin and I exfoliate and moisturize. It seems to have started, now that I think about it when I started wearing mineral makeup.

Do you think it could be the mineral makeup? :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I hope not cause I have spent a lot of money on samples, etc. I have some on order right now too, Lauress and Meow. I guess I could take a break from the makeup. I was thinking it could be the cold weather, but the weather has been nice for about a week now.

yes i definately think its the makeup. my skin has never had this problem. i hope i can correct the problem though. ive tried many brands and theyve all done the same thing. meow was the worst though, hopefully you have better luck than me. people say lumiere is so good for dry skin but it didnt seem to be that good for mine..i feel comfort in knowing im not the only one. ive always had sensitive skin, im thinking that even though the makeup is minerals that im having bad reactions to it..like i have reactions to other things such as metals and what not.

oh and it hasnt cleared my skin up anymore like it seems to do for everyone else. ugh!

mineral makeup does dry your skin a tad, but it shouldn't make it flake like that.

make sure you moisturize well before you apply your foundation.

erm, exfoliate.

are you using anything that would dry your skin out to treat problems like acne or something?

:

nope thats what is confusing i use nothing for my acne and ive never had dry skin before (on my face) i dont use anything that would be harmful, everything is all natural. and i do moisturize before and everything. it seems unpreventable :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was considering trying MMU but now i'm scared. Cuz my skin is dryish...and i dont' want it being any more dry!

Have you started or stopped any medications?

I take a cholesterol lowering medication. I just found out that it has a drying affect on my skin because it has a direct affect on fat in my system.

Today I tried a Lumiere liquid mineral foundation sample and its not so bad. A lot less flaking. I placed an order for some Monave moisture mousse foundation and cream foundation. Maybe that will help with the flaking.

When wearing MMU foundation I have found it especially important to moisturize and then apply a light coat of oil (I use Emu oil) right before putting on the foundation. I used to have the flaking issues till I discovered that little trick.

It helps the foundation (I use either Meow or Lumiere depending on how much coverage I want) glide on smoother, helps it set better, and prevents it from drying out your skin. I think MMU is designed to go on slightly oily skin and since mine is on the dry side, I have to substitute in some artificial oils.

Oh, and one more thing – just because you’re using oil don’t think you can skip on a good, creamy night time moisturizer. Oils and moisturizers do different things for the skin and you need to provide both on a regular basis.

It could be a number of things..weather changes play a big part in the annoying changes in our skin. Also, if you suffer from any outside allergies or take medications for those allergies, changes in cleansers, over exfoliation or a change in manufactuer supplies, low grade- poor quality product ingredients (this can even occur in very pricey skin care products). It could even be the result from a change in shampoo or conditioner!

I'm curious as to what Mineral Make-Up you are using. Typically it shouldn't cause you any problems, however, over the past 8 years as an esthetician, I've had 2 clients that had some challenges with the minerals.

I've been having this problem recently and I've been using mineral makeup for years, so I know it's not that. I was using jojoba oil at night and grapeseed oil during the day, but my skin was still very dry and flaky. So today after being incredibly fed up with the results of using natural oils, I used a very deep vitamin e moisturizing cream Derma E Skin Care - Vitamin E Moisturizing Creme - Vitamin E, 12,000 IU 4 oz (which is not tested on animals BTW) and my skin is so much softer and more supple. Right before I lathered it on, I cleansed my face with a sugar and agave nectar (basically unprocessed honey) scrub. I would recommend it, it makes your skin very soft.

I put mineral makeup on a few hours after I did this and I didn't see any flakes, so apparently it worked.

Hope that helps!

Hi Mindy,

I stopped wearing MMU for a few days and I started wearing my old makeup. I am wearing Mac Studio Fix. My face looks great. I can't believe it. I wish it weren't so. Well, we'll see what happens when I get my Monave cream makeup and mousse makeup. Maybe one of the mineral ingredients is causing me to flake?

I am going to try putting a layer of oil before the minerals, I like jojoba oil. That is light, and does not cause acne. Non-comedogenic.
