I am really frustrated with my skin. I have been using ProActiv just to finish it up. I use the whole 3 step system. However, I have been breaking out on my chin. It seems to be getting worse. Just today I've had two new spots start to pop up on my chin. I have been drinking a whole heck of a lot of water. How much does diet play into it? I also try to make sure my make-up is oil-free, etc. Any recommendations about cleansers and exfoliating products would be helpful or any tips and tricks that helped your skin clear up. I am on a extremly limited budget, so I can't afford anything too outrageously priced!

i also used ProActif at the beginning, and it worked, then it just stopped working.

I also had acne on my chin. Apparently it is very common is women in their 30's (due to hormones), according to my dermatologist. She recommended I use ROC Purif-Act, and it's been 3 weeks and no breakouts. Nothing.

Not sure if they sell ROC in the states, but if you want, I can do a CP for you.

Try not to use to much products on your skin as it can agravate the spots even more and cause some more to pop up. Hope you can get it sorted out soon xxxx

i been using aveeno clear complexion foaming cleanser and stridex pads for sensitive skin in the evening. cuts through the makeup well and the stridex pads exfoliate and tone. both are available at the drug store for less than $15 for both. do you have a moisturizer that's working for you now?

I know how fustrating this can be. I have found aveeno foaming cleanser to be very helpful. I use Olay cleansing cloths to exfoliate 1-3 times a week. After cleansing I splash my face with cool water, this helps tighten pores and it also makes me feel refreshed. Then I moisturise with Olay complete (I love this product), its also great to prep the skin before applying foundation.

Try to wash you face with luke warm water and not hot water. Hot water dries you skin and therefore causes the skin to produce more oil. Also, try not to touch your face too much during the day and keep things like the telephone clean.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Ladies. I am going to try to not overdue it w/ cleansers, etc. Also, thank you Jennifer for the link to that thread, it was very helpful! I have combination skin. Sometimes its very oily and other times it can be very dry. I need to revamp what I use for foundation and concealer. Any good recommendations on concealers that won't keep breaking me out? I'm using an Almay Wake-Up call concealer. I haven't used a foundation in forever, because I can never find anything that matches my skintone.

If you're breaking out a lot around your chin, it could be the caused of using the fluorinated toothpaste. Try to clean/wash your face again around your chin after you're done brushing your teeth.

For concealer, find a spot concelaer with AHA/BHA properties. It'll help to heal the acne when you wearing makeup. I can't really recommend any product since I live in Japan.

proactive doesnt work at all in my case ... now i use DHC Pimple Spot & ettusais acne whitening masks twice a week .. i am also on diane35 which works wonderful!

its a contraceptive but usually used to combat acne .. perhaps u could seek advise from a GP or something .. apart from helping me rid of acne 2 yrs ago, it reduces sebum secretion and my skin changes from oily/combination to normal .. no more oily scalp as well .. its just so wonderful!

its just IMO .. HTH though

I think diet plays a massive part in it, also I think stress, even subconsciously can be a factor. Lots of fruits, vegies and daily multi-vitamins can help.

I have a clear face all month and then bam .... two or three big spots every mo. at "that time of the mo.". If you're breaking out all the time maybe change of diet a bit will help you out. If you are breaking out once a month ... i've resigned myself to putting up with it and thinking there really is no cure for the mo. breakouts ... its a female thing

If over the counter stuff isn't working for you, I'd suggest Retin A micro and maybe a little run of antibiotics. That combo did a miracle for me. The antibiotics gets rid of the bacteria, and it got rid of the big nasty ones. Only used it for a month. Maybe that's all you need.

Retinoids or Retin A micro/Differin change the way your cells are made so the pores won't get clogged. The tube is about $70 but you won't have to waste money on expensive cleansers, creams, and potions. Plus the tiny tube lasts a loooong time.

Both can be prescribed by your general physician so you don't have to make an appointment with a dermatologist if your insurance doesn't cover them. Maybe the prescription method is the route to take if you're tired of spending a lot of money in the Pharmacy store trial and error game.

Also, some skin types will break out if they don't get enough moisture. In my case, I have to moisturize my cheeks with creams that contain mineral oil or petrolatum (vaseline). Ever since, I stopped getting those nasty zits. What happened was that my cheeks were not getting enough moisture when I used oil free moisturizers, so my body started producing more sebum and lead to clogged pores. Really, mineral oil and vaseline aren't that bad at all...but that's a whole 'nother story.

Thanks for that information! I have been wanting to get the Differin gel but worried that I would have to go see a dermatologist. I will definately look into getting a prescription from my doctor.

I also will check out those vitamins.

Try using a gycolic acid cleanser I get mine from a British website called lookgr8.co.uk (5% gycolic mud cleanser and 10% gycolic milk cleanser) - some of them are gentle enough for sensitive skins yet strong enough to really get the skin clean. Also try Avon gycolic acid pads. I suffered from spots for many years, despite always cleansing and toning morning and evening without fail and using reputable products and have only just solved the problem using the gycolics. Be careful that you do not use too strong solutions. I use mineral foundations as I find they stay well but do not clog the skin.

Hi KimC2005, the spots of your chin could be caused by your hormones, the fact that your drinking lots of water will bring out impurities but if you keep at it it should soon clear up.Hope some of the other suggestions for products will help.
