I wish there weren't like a billion causes of acne.

If only keeping skin clear was as simple as washing your face every night. I'll go through phases where my skin shows improvement if my diet is better, but I don't remember the last time I had flawless skin.

Sorry to hear that.

I dont have any acne advice. I suffer from allergies though and it really sucks to have flare ups.

I know how you feel ;(, and I know how much it sucks. My skin gets used to products so fast that I don't see an improvement for longer than maybe a month if i'm lucky anymore

The majority of my acne is caused by hormones, since i'm irregular and have some PCOS symptoms.

Have you ever been on the pill CoverGirl?

^ I haven't. I'm also irregular and have PCOS symptoms (not sure if I actually have it though).

I do preventative measures to mak sure my face dosent break out, but as a female that is hard. I drink lots of water, I keep my face clean and moisturized.

I don't always respond well to the pill, but I have responded best to bcs like Yasmin, Yas and Ocella which have controversial problems right now.

Also, Ocella is about $52 for a 1 month supply and is out of my budget so i've never been able to pick it up...

When I was 15 and I was put on Yasmin, It helped my acne signifigantly... I can't even begin to tell you the improvement I saw.

I feel your pain, and hope you find some help.

^ Thank you.

I'm not obese either. My sister had some PCOS symptoms and had it checked out, and her doc said she didn't have it. Maybe I should check it out anyway. Ocella is out of my budget too.

Drink lots of water, don't keep touching your face, make sure you are using a clean towel, eat some veggies and keep away from fried/deep fried stuff, get some sunshine, exercise.

i know...its hard to find the culprit of your acne when there is so many causes...also sleep on clean pillowcases...& just use common sense about things

I hear ya on this one. My skin goes from clear one day and then it decides to freak out. It's such a chore to keep it happy!

I totally feel your pain hun. I've had troublesome skin for the past few years but it's getting better gradually. Here are a few steps that may help your skin.

- Wash your face twice a day. Cleanse, tone and moisturize with products that are relevant to your skin type. I'm currently using a Cetaphil cleanser and I love it because it's gentle and doesn't leave my skin feeling tight like I've just had botox. Try to look for oil-free products.

- Exfoliate and use a face-mask weekly to remove dead skin cells and absorb excess oil.

- Maintain a healthy diet. Keep away from sugary, fatty, greasy foods and try to limit the amount of dairy foods/drinks you consume. Eat plenty of vegetables. Yes, I know this is hard, but trust me, it'll do wonders for your skin.

- Try to drink at least 1.5-2 litres of water a day. It helps flush out toxins in your body. Sugary drinks are bad and make your skin go loopy (soda, fruit juice, flavored milks etc.)

- Change your pillowcase frequently. I flip mine every night and change it every three days so I never sleep on the same surface more than once. I know it seems excessive, but it helps prevent the build up of bacteria. Also wipe clean your phone weekly for the same reason.

- Don't touch your face and wash your hands regularly.

- Don't overdo the makeup. If possible, don't wear any makeup at all ("GASP! Anything but that!"). Makeup is essentially a thick layer on top of your skin that blocks your pores so they can't breathe. We tend to cake on the foundation to cover up pimples but we should be doing the opposite. Don't smother your poor little pores.

If it's bad and you've tried absolutely everything with no results, go and see your GP/dermatologist. If it's being caused by hormones then even the strictest hygiene/diet/skincare regime will have trouble deterring those evil pimples.

I had horrible skin in high school. Guys called me pizza face.

I used a lot of stuff from the dermatologist, nothing worked. I ended up using Accutane. I havent had a problem since, just normal things like one pimple.

I feel ya. I have adult acne and it's quite aggravating dealing with it STILL! I've been to dermatologists, had microdermabrasion, used this n that. But my diet has showed much improvement, at least I can give it that. But I hope you find something that works and let us know

Hi Covergirl,

I know how you feel!! I'm a 26-year old dealing with the same issues. I just had a kid, but fortunately i didn't have to worry about stretch marks, and my blemishes cleared up once i used natural products...we are all different though, Attitude Line products worked for me. Hope this helps-- good luck >>attitudedeadseaproducts.weebly.com

Do you know what causes your own acne? It does help if you can figure out what triggers your own acne and focus on those.

My acne is caused mostly be hormones so washing my face doesn't really prevent my acne. Birth Control has helped to regular my hormones, although it was a trip in finding out which pill changed my hormones for the better instead of for the worse. (I had one pill that caused me to break out horridly, not only on my face but my chest, back, arms and legs were breaking out too. seriously, zits on my thighs and arms. i've never even heard of that?!) The one I'm on now (nuvaring) has helped clean up my face a lot. I was getting maybe 1 zit a month, but I switched my cleanser/moisturizer, and I haven't really had much of a problem in the last few months.

If you don't have health insurance, you might check out Planned Parenthood to try to get onto birth control. They look at your financial status and a lot of times they'll give you your check up and prescription for free.

oh, and what is PCOS?

I'm sorry to hear that. I have acne-prone skin and after years of no luck with shelved skin care products, I just went to a dermatologist!

Perhaps that is something you want to try. I think you can talk to your regular doctor about it too. The product I was prescribed works very slowly (I started in middle of April this year) and my skin right now is looking 90% better.

Good luck!
