I think sadly everytime you exfoliate, you will eliminate some of the tan. I know there are tan prolonging products in the market, you could try using one.

I agree with magosienne that you will lose some of your tan every time you exfoliate. It's just part of the dead skin cell removal. I use my clarisonic every other day or every 3rd day, and apply my self tanner on the days that I exfoliate. I also have a tan extender, but haven't used it yet. Not sure if it will make a difference with exfoliating, but trial and error is what I'll have to do in order to figure it out. So basically, I just reapply my self tanner after exfoliating and I also apply the day after. I tend to just apply until I get the color I want and then just apply when exfoliating, unless I'm at my desired color still. Sounds like I'm just rambling, but I'm trying to explain how I do it. LOL Hope this helps someone!
You don't remove your tan by shaving, waxing, etc., tanning affects the pigment in your skin, not the top layers, which cannot be lightened w/ exfoliation.
