I've done it a couple of times with okay results, but I'd appreciate any advice or Youtube video recommendations you might have. I just ordered the Diane Tinke Hair Cutter, as I think it would be a bit safer to do it with that rather than scissors.

I used to work in a salon, so here's my take (if you are going to do it yourself):

Cut longer than you want. Don't cut straight across...cut "into" the bangs with the tips of the shears. I recommend doing it dry. It takes time...so don't rush ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I actually have one of those razors like the Diane Tinke cutter...just be careful to cut longer than you want, and to do it slowly. I used it (still do on my few clients) to texture the hair. You could always go to Sally's/Marlo's depending on where you live, and get a hair cutting razor...it has a guard on it, so you can't cut yourself. That's a good option if the Tinke cutter is too bulky to handle (I like it, but I've worked with people who thought it was too "bulky").

This is best video I could find describing the above : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_XLDEDVohE

Be patient, and good luck :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Dont scrunch your forehead while cutting!!!! Bangs shouldnt be wider than your eyebrows. And I agree with paralegalatl, cut longer than u want, you can always take more off!!

I always cut my hair in sections, a little at a time, to add dimension. I separate the hair out through a comb, and trim from the end of the comb. You want to grab sections by how the hair naturally falls. What kind of bangs are you looking for--sideswept, or straight full bangs?
